But utility operators threw a curveball when they said IRA tax credits will be critical to increasing energy supply and reducing costs.

AI seems to be a great example of a NON-baseload demand. There is no particular reason to keep your AI servers running in the middle of the night.

Honestly, every home should have battery backup if for nothing else but peak time relief.
Most homes could get through peak hours with less than 10kwh batteries. It would go a long way to helping grid operators fix a major issue and alleviate the need for peaked generation.
Charge your battery at night or even during the day with rates are low then use it to power your home when rates are high. Or…virtual power plant it and export power at a profit to homeowners.
Some utilities like PGE are doing exactly that right now and it’s mutually beneficial.
