  1. This is a super heartwarming meme.

The internet needs more content like this!

  2. That ended in 2004 when Ronaldo got Wayne Rooney sent off and knocked us out of the Euros….only for them to lose to Greece!!!!!!!

  3. That’s adorable, knew there was a reason I felt i was surrounded by homies in Portugal last year.
Jokes aside it really is amazing that a political agreement has lasted for 7 centuries

  4. Not since my ex left me for a Portuguese guy.
    Fuckin bitch.

  5. Going to Porto in three weeks and this just got me more excited lol

  6. Mad to think that a treaty signed by John o’ Gaunt – you know – him out of Shakespeare history plays – is still active.

  7. It was the a Portugal princess who brought over her love of tea that made us try it and then fall in love with it.

  8. Strangely enough I don’t recall the Portuguese helping out during WW2 Brazil yeah after effectively being bullied into the war by the US but not Portugal…..Funny that!

No jokes aside and not meaning to take the piss but it’s funny the bed fellows we sometimes keep when cruising others, not like we’ve always been saints of course.

  9. Also never ever been at war with each other. Impressive considering the British have managed to be at war with almost every nation at least once.

  10. Was this basically one if those “as two of the three largest naval powers and explorers in the world, fuck the Spanish” sort of things?

  11. I’m married to a Portuguese lady. They hate us since Brexit. Took it very personally.

  12. Except that one time when India annexed Goa. Then Britain was all like…

    >New phone, who is this? Hello, hello, it’s a terrible line, sorry, I can’t hea… *click*. Phew, I think we got away with it. Now, let’s call out for some Rogan Josh.

(In case it’s not obvious, I do not believe Portugal should have held on to Goa).

  13. Weird history in WW2 by the look of things tho; went neutral, leased air bases to the Allies, sold stuff to Germany, helped refugees and…

“Portugal was the only country to declare national mourning for Hitler’s death. ”

    WTF!

  14. and all you have to do is forget about, say, the napoleonic wars when Britain threatened, force to takeover the country, and captured portuguese ships when Portugal refused the continental blockade. That they then forced Portugal to switch sides and Wellington effectively burned half the countryside to deny foraging to the french was just icing on top.

    But I digress, truly remarkable.

  15. Fucking love Portugal, best place I’ve been on holiday. Lovely location, the foods absolutely banging and the people are all sound too

  16. I volunteer in London, helping older people with mobility issues with some exercises or walks around the neighbourhood, etc.

I’m Portuguese and one of my initial fears – quite irrational to tell the truth – was that I would be paired with some old person that would be a bit weary of spending time alone with a foreigner.

I was nervous when I went to meet this one older gentleman, and when we got to know each other he asked me immediately where I was from. “that accent… where is it from and what do you hope to achieve with your volunteering?” and I thought _uh oh, here we go_. “I’m from Portugal. and, apart from wanting to help people, I also want to get to know new people and share stories”.

to which he replies “ah… new people, but old friends. Portugal, you are our oldest friends, and I’m sure we’ll get along fine”

we did. I kept on visiting him in my free time until he passed away two years ago. at his funeral, I found out that his wish was for people to donate to the Battersea dogs and cats home. which I did in the name of that old alliance.

  17. I love this meme. Very proud of my county’s alliance with the Portuguese. ❤️ We love you Portugal.

  18. Top blokes the Portuguese, won’t hear a bad word against them.

  19. Always liked the Portuguese, mainly because they’re not the French.
