Hear ye, hear ye. His Majesty, King Charles is about to “Stir it Up” as he reveals his own musical playlist featuring an eclectic group of artists — from Bob Marley and Kylie Minogue — to Grace Jones, Davido and RAYE.
In celebration of Commonwealth Day on Monday, March 10, Apple Music will debut “The King’s Music Room,” a special broadcast recorded at Buckingham Palace.
During the program Charles shares his top music picks — with favorites from disco, reggae and contemporary artists — along with memorable anecdotes from his encounters with musical legends, and insight into why these songs are so special to him.

In a press release announcing the new program, Rachel Newman, Apple Music’s global head of content and editorial, said she was honored the king chose to share his personal playlist with Apple — and music fans around the world.
“Human curation has always been a key pillar of our unique editorial approach,” Newman said.
Appearing in a video message released on Apple’s website, Charles emphasized his love for music.
“Throughout my life, music has meant a great deal to me. It has that remarkable ability to bring happy memories, comfort us in times of sadness, and to take us to distant places,” Charles said. “But perhaps above all, it can lift our spirits to such a degree, and all the more so when it brings us together in celebration. In other words, it brings us joy … I particularly wanted to share with you, songs which brought me joy.”
What is Commonwealth Day in the UK?
Commonwealth Day is an annual celebration of the 56 countries in the Commonwealth. Most are former territories of the British Empire. But it’s not a political union, instead, it’s an organization in which countries with diverse social, political and economic backgrounds are regarded as equals — with the king serving as the ceremonial head.
As Speaker of the House of Commons, a democratically elected house of the UK Parliament, Sir Lindsay Hoyle said his hope for the Commonwealth is to build a unified, inclusive future for all.
“I have always been passionate about the Commonwealth,” Hoyle said. “A family of nations with a shared history and values, working together as equal partners for the benefit of all, no matter the size or location of any member.”
“The King’s Music Room” premiers Monday, March 10, on Apple Music 1. It’s also available on demand with an Apple Music subscription.
