  1. ***The Telegraph reports:***

Poland will train all adult men for war, the country’s prime minister said on Friday, as Warsaw seeks to shore up its defences against Russia.

[Donald Tusk](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2025/01/17/donald-tusk-tells-starmer-breturn-after-brexit/) told the Polish parliament that his government would “prepare large-scale military training for every adult male in Poland”, as well as some women.

“We will try to have a model ready by the end of this year so that every adult male in Poland is trained in the event of war, so that this reserve is comparable and adequate to the potential threats,” Mr Tusk said.

The new training regimen would not amount to conscription, with Mr Tusk stressing that “[we will] prepare it in such a way that it will not be a burden on people”.

  2. Maybe someone can refresh my memory, was it Finland that also trained every male adult and gave them an assault rifle in their homes in case of an attack?

  3. To me, this means the Polish have come to two unspoken conclusions:

    1) US may not be a member of NATO here in the near future.

    2) Russia will not stop at Ukraine.

  4. NATO… Doing NATO things that they wouldn’t do if Putins paranoia didn’t cause this mess. Wonder how his paranoia is going these days? Not to mention his forces are down because of the Ukraine conflict, so he has less reserves. Perhaps this is why Trump is now on the scene? Will Trump try to force Americans to fight Europe alongside his pals, the Russians?

  5. Smart.  Poland is a great country with great potential.  Let’s keep it that way and protect it.

  6. people will have a choice whether to go train or pay more taxes

  7. >Poland would be safer if it had its own nuclear arsenal

    Trump: Ukraine don’t have cards!

Most countries of the World: “0o. But before now, USA forbade to have them! Said that they are not needed because there are International Law alternatives!”

    Poland: “Cards! We need cards!”

  8. History hasnt been kind to poor Poland. In between fascists and communists and having to fight both.

  9. Men forced to fight in war but women primary victims of war obviously

  10. FYI – this is voluntary. Everyone in comments treats this like this is mandatory.

  11. Train women too so they can defend themselves and others.

  12. What about women? Wtf or will women just be allowed to flee to richer countries once war breaks like it happened in ukraine, while men get stuck on the trenches?

And what about foreigners? (Including some ukrainians)

  13. As a father of 2 young boys, I’m opposed to war and pray it never comes to that.

  14. Poland knows what it’s like to be a part of “the Russian world” and have decided to never join it again

  15. I don’t know, kind of scary times we’re headed but good to see that Poland is not taking any chances.

  16. As a polish woman I would be outraged, my place isn’t in the kitchen, give me a rifle, let me dig a trench and let me defend my country

  17. For those who didn’t listen to the speech. Tusk is making training available for all men and women in the country. They are not training every adult man in the country, only making training available. The program should be operational within a year. This article is taking a lot of quotes out of context.

  18. I really don’t want to be THAT person 😭

I just hope women are being selected as well, not just the men. I know plenty of hard, strong women who would put their lives down for their country.

  19. I’m thinking either Poland or Finland offs Putin shortly.

  20. Well here in Canada, a country threatened to be annexed, our genious government is taking away all of our guns. So thats nice
