Brexit donor behind net-zero backlash has $130m in fossil fuels – Jeremy Hosking, who is bankrolling campaigns to scrap UK emissions targets, has given millions to parties led by Nigel Farage and Laurence Fox

  1. “Anti net zero” is going to be the next big culture war thing these sorts of grifters are pushing so – unlike Brexit – I’m glad a lot of the dodgy funding sources are starting to leak out before they even get started.

  2. > has given millions to parties led by Nigel Farage and Laurence Fox

I wonder if he’s looking for a refund on whatever he’s pissed down the drain.

  3. You can make a profit go on the stock market . worse is coming no worries I will be racking it in told you month ago what will happen just fell on deaf ears

  4. Youd think that amassing that kind of wealth would mean that you’d have some kind of intelligence. Imagine putting your money into a shitty party like UKIP.

  5. Cares about his money more then anything. Even lives of every man woman and child on the planet. A traitor to humanity and should be dealt with as one.

  6. The only good thing that could come out of these grifters setting-up a party is a split the in the right wing vote (like we have with centre and left of centre parties) which will help Labour in an election.

  7. Donating big money to get your own way has to stop. These twatts are circumventing democracy 90 plus percent of the country knows about and is behind the plan to ditch coal and oil.
Anyone with kids or grandkids needs to vote and campaign to stop this shit.
All so a few rich twatts can make a few more millions out of fossil fuels and to hell with the planet.

  8. At what point is something done to stop the harm these cunts are doing on a national scale. If somebody graffitied a wall or kicked off a car wingmirror, they’d rightly face prosecution – but ruin a nation (or, now, even the planet) and nothing is done.

  9. Im just going to start a political party where I spout utter shit.

It seems that’s the best way to make money these days.

  10. I think people should be less dismissive and more sympathetic with these issues. I can see this very easily becoming the next immigration debate where when formally should you have concerns about immigration you were dismissed as a racist, now if you have concerns about net-zero you are a climate change denier.

Just like how middle class/white collar workers never felt threatened by immigration, they can afford to stomach the costs of net-zero and have a warm tingly feeling when they engage in the process of achieving it. But counter to that, low paid workers are the ones who already struggle to pay their bills, who already thought that the cost of filling up their cars was extortion and now its gone up 70%, who think the idea of spaffing 20k on a heat pump is utterly nuts.

It is not that one group is right, and the other wrong. But rather if the politically dominant (“”liberal elites””) group just ignore the other, you may end up with a ground swell forces the hand in politics.

  11. Fighting net-zero is a problem that will end up solving itself. I don’t want it to happen, but I have given up trying to think that people will vote in their own favour.

Idiots will listen to the gaping voice boxes and just follow along like idiots and when the tidal wave comes or the blistering heat breaks through the shielding they’ll say…

“We didnt vote for this! Why did no one warn us?!”

  12. Roll up, roll up, buy your politicians here

Fuck everyone – really – fuck everyone, money is more important than people

  13. Sadly, there are plenty of nutjobs and suckers who will fall for this crap. But, yeah, these anti net zero and climate change denial people are leeches.

  14. This kind of corruption is how we got to where we are in the US! The billionaire class found useful idiots – like Farage, and manoeuvred them in positions of influence and power. The press was complicit in still treating these tools like they had real valid opinions. American Journalism has descended into the “real Housewives of Cable News”, I am praying that the UK culture is more resistant to the same manipulations that is destroying the US.

I say this as a UK Immigrant in Progress. `Relocating permanently in June.

  15. The whole climate change thing is a fraud. Look at the science its garbage. 1850 to 1900 global temperature records accurate to +/- 0.05 degrees. Its all fake data. Also the “10 years to save the planet” crap makes me sick. That was 3 years ago. 7 years to go then.

They come up with crap like “the science is settled” and yet during lockdown the CO2 did not drop at Manua Loa as they don’t know how to factor in the ocean and tree output correctly compared to the puny man made levels.

The sea level is NOT accelerating but a constant approx linear rise of 3mm a year due to The Milankovitch Cycles. Antarctic has gained ice and Arctic is fine with an increase of polar bear activity. Also barrier reef is fine.

  16. Erm, all the carbon net zero people have ties to fossil fuels, because they support it as it guarantees them business as green energy isn’t suitable for purpose. Nuclear is the only real solution, but they don’t make money from that so they push green, which is just fossil fuels with extra steps. Just look at France and Germany and see who has better air quality and why.

  17. I’m sort of looking forward to his reasoning

It would make him sound like a bigger donkey than he already does. That’s some achievement

  18. Although COP26 was a failure to do anything meaningful, fossil fuel companies know they are public enemy number one, so they will do all they can to gain friends on the inside in an attempt to avoid serious restrictions for as long as possible. Cigarette companies did it to great success, fossil fuel companies will do all they can to imitate that success.

  19. Right, that’s it, I think we need a cut off age for complaining about net zero, climate denial etc. If you’re over about 50 then STFU and stop ruining other people’s futures by trying to fuck up the climate/habitat/our only planet.
    /s (sort of)

Edit: or over 40 and your name is Laurence Fox!

  20. Jeremy Hosking is a dangerous extremist – anyone opposing net zero is legitimately a threat to us all.

That is how existential climate breakdown is and how these people need to be treated.

  21. This – fossil fuel benefactors donating to anti-environmental political entities – is a phenomenom that has been happening since the early 70s and is the reason why the option to move off of fossil fuels 30 years ago was rejected and deferred. Hosking’s contribution to this is miniscule, relatively speaking.

  22. If you want to be a democracy, you have to get money out of politics. That means out of political parties, and away from politicians and out of the media. It’s that simple. If you keep selling power, you’re not a democracy.

    It’s decision time.
