  1. MSNBC fired Joy Reid despite her ratings being on their way up, according to figures obtained by the Daily Beast.

The Black anchor’s 7 p.m. show, *The ReidOut*, was abruptly canceled late last month as part of a broader shake-up which also saw a series of non-white anchors stripped of their shows by the liberal-leaning network.

  2. They went up because the story was actually about her for a change.

For a hot minute, people cared about what happened to her.

  3. OP, it’s BS that I have to register to read this article!!

  4. All the firings and demotions were women and people of color.

    Hmm.

  5. Who honestly cares what talking heads the corporate bosses of these propaganda networks elevate to appease their billionaire owners.

  6. “Going up” doesn’t matter if the ratings are still lower than what’s expected for that time slot.

  7. Meh, I’m socially progressive and center left politically, but I completely stopped watching MSNBC after the election. I’m exhausted by politics.

Wake me when the fighting starts.

  8. Lol never forget when she had that “body language expert” on to tell her audience how BAD BERNIE IS OMG WHAT A BAD GUY BERNIE FUCKING SANDWRS IS.

  9. To be fair, show’s like Joy Reid’s are bad for the people who watch them and the discourse at large. Her show and ones like it is poison to a society. She makes Rush Limbaugh seem tame.

  10. She probably refused to toe the line like a lot of other’s have been doing.

  11. Joy Reid’s politics were completely consistent with the worst qualities of Democratic leadership. She was pro corporate activism. Completely fixated on any subject that was *not* the class war.

The one thing Joy Reid was good on was Gaza – where she called a spade a spade, and identified Israel as at fault for the ongoing violence. Because duh.

So they got rid of her just like Mehdi Hasan.

MSNBC has been controlled by Republicans for a long time, just like the Democratic establishment. Why do you think all of the donors, all of the advisors, all of the pundits, all of the lobbyists are former GOP agents. Michael Steele was the fucking president of the RNC. Morning Joe was a goddamn Republican representative during the beginning of the full on defiance of Republican cooperation.

  12. They should have fired her years ago (8 or so years at this point?) when it came out she used to have a blog that regularly posted homophobic shit.

  13. The left eating its own where they accuse even far left platforms of racism for daring to fire someone with low rating who happens to be black

  14. Race baiting witch, the nicest thing that could have happened to her was just being fired. Total scumbag trash racist and liar.

  15. Back in the run up to the Gulf war after 9/11, Phil Donahue had one of the highest rated shows on MSNBC (might have been their highest rated show at the time, but I don’t fully recall), but he (and he was pretty much the only one in the media) questioned whether we’ve vetted the “evidence” for war enough and whether we’ve shouldn’t slow our roll on invading Iraq. His show was promptly cancelled. The military industrial complex feeds the Oligarchs and the Oligarchs are a fucking hungry lot.

  16. Did the writer even look at the chart on his story? Her ratings were awful. It’s also sad that someone writing about TV doesn’t know the difference between audience share and total viewers.

  17. She used to get like 40,000-60,000 views in her target demographic—those numbers are abysmal

  18. This woman invited a “body language expert” onto her show to smear Bernie, fuck her forever

  19. No they weren’t. The whole channel was dying. That’s why it was broke off from the profitable parts of the business

  20. >Reid’s ratings were the lowest of any MSNBC primetime host in February, and she averaged fewer viewers than the three hours of Melber and Nicolle Wallace that preceded her. Reid’s exit also came just as a reported one-year contract extension ended

So basically, she was the lowest rated of the prime-time shows, lost viewers from her lead-ins, and her contract was up.

  21. Someone’s remote battery died while switching channels and her ratings doubled.

  22. At this point who cares? In a way it’s good to churn the hosts and start again with new people because the whole network’s rating will go up the worse Trump does as president and no one has much of an opinion about the new ones.

  23. Joy “my homophobic blogs were fabricated by hackers” Reid.

    Next!

  24. I’m a Liberal and couldn’t fucking stand that woman.  But Symone Sanders is even worse and they’re apparently putting her on one of the new shows.

  25. Her poo-pooing of Biden and Harris didn’t help, nor was her overlooking of Hamas over the past couple of years. Her leaving gave her colleagues a good “fight the system” moment to give them cred, but that was it.

  26. Well in America, we let the president pick what we watch on TV because money.
