No need for a ban. Just impose 40% import tariffs on online advertisement space.
I dunno man, we still use Facebook A LOT, so I’m not sure if people will react well to this.
that’s how you make the masses turn more in to the right/extreeme right
If we get decentralised, censor free european version of it then why not
We need to go the more dramatic route instead of banning. Do everything we can to sabotage them left and right in our own market, expose their weakness, and scare away their investors permanently.
A swift ban wouldn’t do much because you can work around it with VPN’s and it wouldn’t really hurt them for long, it would be one and done and that’s it. That’s not what you want, you want to show the US how they have failed and remind them everyday when shit hits the fan in the stock market, making them beg for it to stop.
At the same time we also need to work on EU startups getting the dominance they need so they can overtake the US market eventually.
We need to fight disinformation, but freedom of speech is important too. If we start banning stuff, the far-right and Putin will use that against us. I don’t have the answers, I don’t know how to fight disinformation successfully, but banning platforms is not the correct approach.
Are there any EU-based, but international versions of things like Instagram and Reddit? I wish there were good alternatives to turn to.
Yeah, let’s ban everything foreign and name it… The Great Firewall sounds good, doesn’t it?

Banning SoMe platforms left right and center won’t accomplish anything good. If we want to improve online platforms we need to implement legal standards just like we have on other types of essential infrastructure and providers that live up to these standards can engage in this market alongside others.
I think banning Facebook would be disastrous for small bussinesses.
Does Russia have something? Europes already supping them with energy purchases why not go full Putin?
I’m against banning (yes I’m aware how dangerous it is), but it goes against our core values. However it should be bombarded with laws, just like commercials are. Once that’s in place, nobody will find x interesting anymore, if it can even be used still.

The US has stopped all monitoring of Russian cyber threats. Cyber threats are projected to cause USD 10.5 trillion in damage to the global economy in 2025. If the the US does not want to participate in this prevention… what are you’re options?

But but, what about all the peeps I might have befriended there? Can there be a place where I can keep in touch or somethin’?
Whatever you decide could someone wring Keir’s neck so he’ll do it to?
im coming around on the fella but if we leave nigel unchecked he’s going to start regaining his cult again… licking trumps taint only does so much damage when you’re voterbase are braindead.

I love it when the government decides what is okay for me to read 😍😍😍
Hell no. This is just censorship
For a brief while FB became tolerable but since the election when Zuckerberg announced a free for all FB has become a bunch of bots stirring up controversial topics to feed the anger chamber. I like having my “friends” all in one accessible platform but I’m needing to log on less in order to keep my sanity.
May, can, should, would, well.
Just don’t use it if you feel that strongly about it. Don’t tell other people what they can and cannot use.
I wish we had this sort of unity like Europe has , in Asia too but our people can’t just live without having border disputes .
