A Reddit moderation tool is flagging ‘Luigi’ as potentially violent content

1. Can’t mention the name of my favorite Mario character anymore…..

   Jokes aside, this is pretty dumb decision. Are they trying to kill their own site with dumb censorship?

2. Can you believe that in China, they can’t even say “Winnie the Pooh” online? Imagine if such ridiculous diktats started to be applied by US corporations too. Of course it would never happen. But imagine.

3. Ok I’m kinda confused. Does that last paragraph imply they’ll ban accounts for upvoting content relating to that Italian plumber? Because it kinda sounds like that’s what they’re saying

4. same thing happened with adding “in minecraft” after fedposting

   they know people now use luigi to get around saying someone should be killed

   by this point i’m sure people aren’t surprised by reddit admins being censorious

5. “Potentially violent” seems about right. Whenever the person, not the video game character, comes up in discussion Reddit comments devolve into people sharpening guillotines and demanding heads roll. Guy’s name has even become a verb lol

6. I had a few comments removed just for mentioning that felons are allowed to run for office in some Luigi threads.

   Not celebrating a crime, not agreeing with violence, just suggesting that someone run for public office.

7. I asked in AskReddit if there was an alternative to Reddit that doesn’t have the new upvote censorship rules. Immediately removed by mods. Guess that answers that.

8. False positives are always bad, but considering the current discourse, I’d say comments containing “Luigi” carry a high propability of being linked to violence. Too many people on reddit are suggesting that Luigi should go after other people or that there should be more copy cats. Calls to violence need to be taken seriously and it looks like reddit woke up, at least to avoid legal issues.

   Time to see if my comment condemning calls to violence gets flagged as potentially violent for including the slim italian plumber.

9. Another insurance CEO has their house shot up. Hardly got the massive media attention that happened with this.

   The oligarchs are scared and they don’t want people knowing that people are fed up and starting to fight back. Really throughout history class warfare has been violent and the most change comes from that violence.

10. I still upvote content with the Mario Bros name in it, because fuck censorship.  

    Violence is always a moral right decision against oppressors, and CEO are part of that oppression as well as all billionaires and all Republicans and Conservatives in Canada.  

    I’m Canadian, I live in the capital, and I haven’t even started my villain arc yet.   But the way Trump and Republicans keep going, I’ll probably get such an arc.  

    I’m not looking forward to adding to The Checklist, but I’ve got ideas.  

    If spez keeps going this way, he might be the first to be Yoshi’d.
