Actual support is at just 9%, which still feels high.
About 18 per cent of Conservative supporters said they want Canada to become a U.S. state, while 97 per cent of Liberal and NDP voters, and 94 per cent of Bloc supporters said they would not want that.
Men were more open to the idea of becoming U.S. citizens, at 17 per cent, compared with 7 per cent of women. Respondents over the age of 55 were least likely to want a U.S. citizenship, at six per cent, compared with 17 per cent of those between 18 and 34 years old and 16 per cent of respondents between 35 and 54.
I absolutely don’t want to join the circus.
I’d guess that well over 50% of the US feels Canada is fine the way it is. Our issue is the gerrymandered “majority.”
The 9% who support it can move to the US then, we won’t miss them
15% of Canadians were either too drunk to understand the question or to focused on the hockey game to realize what they were answering.

I feel kinda silly asking this. Won’t being a conservative actually entail that you’ll put Canada first? Like you will actually be the last one to want to join another country? It doesn’t make any sense.
It’s actually less than 1 in 10. I’d love to see a poll of Americans for who wants to join Canada.

As someone from Quebec, while I don’t support Quebec independence, I at least understand their desire for it. However, the 15% of who responded they want Canada to join the States, can fuck off and leave. Traitors each and everyone of them.

I’m an Indian born Canadian, so I can say this without being called a bigot but you’ll be surprised how many Indian PRs and naturalized Canadians want to be annexed by US, they think it’s an upgrade.
I love Canada, I used love my birth country India too now it’s a messy place with its current political scenario but I’ll never get why you want to emigrate to great country like Canada and immediately want to do a 180 and twerk for US.

Do we have problems here? Yes , should we work on it or should we abandon ship and hope to be second class citizens in the US ? Some of the posters in the Indian Canadian interweb communities really have no shame twerking openly for US.

I’m a Canadian living/working in the US for the last couple years. Some of my coworkers were shocked (and almost seemed insulted) when I told them Canadians have no interest in joining the US amid their 51st state “jokes”. Outside of Reddit it’s incredible how insular Americans can be in their “why wouldn’t you want to join the greatest country in the world?” mentality.
That’s a fascinating way to say “85% do not want to be invaded by a hostile foreign power.”
