The first meeting of the Working Group created by the European Commission and Slovakia to address the country’s gas supply issues has been held in Brussels.
Report informs, citing Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Energy, that a delegation led by Deputy Minister of Energy Orkhan Zeynalov took part in the discussions.
Head of the Directorate-General for Energy of the European Commission Cristina Lobillo Borrero and Slovakia’s Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Economy Denisa Sakova attended the meeting.
The European side emphasized the strategic importance of Azerbaijan as a reliable partner in the energy sector and expressed readiness to cooperate both in the field of natural gas supplies and in the development of green energy.
The meeting was also attended by SOCAR Vice President Elshad Nasirov, who presented information on Azerbaijan’s gas potential and the possibility of additional supplies to Europe. The conditions for increasing export volumes and developing infrastructure were discussed.
Orkhan Zeynalov emphasized his country’s strategic role in creating energy corridors and reaffirmed Azerbaijan’s readiness to cooperate with European partners.
The meeting also discussed the use of renewable energy sources and their export. The Azerbaijani side informed about the activities within the framework of the implementation of the projects Caspian-Black Sea-Europe, Azerbaijan-Central Asia-Europe, Azerbaijan-Türkiye-Europe and Azerbaijan-Georgia-Türkiye-Bulgaria.
Within the framework of the visit to Brussels, the Azerbaijani delegation met with the Director-General for Energy at the European Commission, Ditte Juul-Jorgensen. The meeting discussed Azerbaijan-EU energy cooperation, the Southern Gas Corridor, as well as the transit of green energy from Central Asia to Europe.
