  1. North Korea’s unveiling of its first nuclear-powered submarine marks a significant shift in its military strategy, potentially altering the balance of power in East Asia. If fully operational, this submarine could enable extended patrols and more stealthy missile launches, increasing the threat level for neighboring countries and beyond.

However, analysts debate whether this is a functional war asset or a symbolic move to project strength amid ongoing tensions. Given Pyongyang’s history of advancing its nuclear capabilities despite sanctions, this development raises urgent questions about regional security, arms control, and diplomatic negotiations.

How should world leaders respond to this growing challenge?

  2. This is the slow but sure march of North Korea to complete nuclear deterrence, the initial stages were completed under the first few years of Kim Jong Un, when he improved North Korean IRBM capabilities and survivability by making them road mobile, and able to be launched in a short window, in the late 2010’s NK made great strides into developing better and more reliable ICBM’s, and now finally creating a platform for reliable SLBM will give North Korea an very strong deterrent against any decapitation strikes from anyone.

North Korea is making similar strides by trying to create a network of satellites to monitor any activity around the peninsula, and by converting their IL-76’s into early warning aircraft.

It was all laid out as part of a long term military modernisation plan laid out over a decade ago which is slowly coming to fruition.
