DAVENPORT, Iowa (KWQC) – Some Quad City local environmental groups are holding “roost-ins” to show support for Bald Eagles in Milan Bottoms.
The Milan Bottoms is an over 35-hundred-acre wetland complex near the Bally’s Casino on the Centennial Expressway. According to a release, the habitat supports heron, mussels and other species, while hosting the largest bald eagle night roost in the lower 48 states.
According to a media release, two protests will be held to show support for the wildlife that calls the area home, and protect from construction they fear could cost wildlife lives.
The first will be held March 12 from 6:15-10 a.m. at Milan Bottoms.
The second will be on March 17 from 4:30 – 5:30 p.m. at Rock Island City Hall.
Rock Island City officials said at a City Council meeting in February, that some of the concerns groups have brought are too early to address in the planning and construction process, but leaders plan to meet with the Sierra Club to address their concerns.
