An inquest into the death of James Allen was formally concluded at Warrington Coroner’s Court on Wednesday.
Sarah Murphy, assistant coroner for Cheshire, concluded a written inquest for James Allen, it was heard.
It was recorded that the 53-year-old, who was born in Liverpool, died on September 8, 2024, in Croatia.
The Ellesmere Port resident, whose occupation was given as head of business, was said to have jumped from the 410ft Limska Draga Viaduct.
He was wearing a parachute, however, he suffered from multiple injuries during the landing.
The court heard that the canopy deployed at the right altitude, but on releasing the toggles, he entered a strong turn.
The final 90-degree turn occurred at a ‘very fast speed’, and he impacted the edge of the road below the viaduct.
It was said that he was conscious on landing but in shock, with first aid immediately administered and an ambulance called.
Sadly however, he died soon after in an ambulance on the way to Pula Military Hospital for further treatment.
The coroner said that Mr Allen was an experienced skydiver and base jumper, and that he had jumped from that same viaduct on a number of occasions ‘without incident’.
It was heard that the medical cause of his death was multiple traumatic injuries.
Formally concluding the inquest, Jacqueline Devonish, senior coroner for Cheshire, said: “The conclusion reached by the coroner is that this death was an accident.”
She added: “The inquest is now complete. All that remains is for me to express condolences to the family.”
