  1. if starlink wants to select who gets their service instead of who pays for it then its time for EU and allies to not want them operating in their grounds

  2. At work (NL) we have plans to have starlink as a isp backup. I will propose these companies as an alternative.

  3. Oh great. Another one of Leon’s companies is going to get replaced worldwide.

    BURN!

  4. This is like offering sandals to an Olympic athlete
Yes they are technically shoes but Starlink does not have any competitors

  5. It is now obvious that the european iris2 program need to be speed up.

2030 was a launch date in a world where the US where the good guys.

Now, with a clear ennemy on the east, and a growing ennemy in the west, and an improved budget, i guess the launch can be speed up a bit, and win 1 or 2 years on schedule.

  6. I think it’s crucial that the EU not only does this but that all those European companies get enough loans, subsidies or whatever to get competitive and that the EU itself switches every single Starlink contract

  7. This is good.

The big sigint/signals loss that Europe won’t be able to replace is military grade spy satellites, which act as early warning for men and materiel movement. The hypothetical intel about a “bomber loading up in Russia to strike a hospital in Ukraine”? Most of that intelligence comes from satellites. The US has something like 234 of them and all of Europe has somewhere around 40. Europe will need to ramp this up ASAP and probably either negotiate a deal with Australia or see if France can house a listening station in the Southern Hemisphere.
