And now the US is ensuring NOBODY will ever do this again.
And as an Anti-Trump/Elon American, I would like to see Ukraine regain its former nuclear arsenal! We still haven’t forgotten about y’all
Ukraine should say that the arsenal was given up in lieu of security guarantees worth $1Trillion, and the US owes $3Trillion in interest plus damages now.
A handshake guarantee is good as long as a handshake lasts.
A nuclear deterrent lasts much longer.
NATO fucked Ukraine.
They’ll never do this again.
Welcome to the era of reinvigorated nuclear proliferation. Yay
They also gave up over 500 non-nuclear cruise missiles and many strategic bomber aircraft, enough to cause anyone to give invading a second thought. Even without nukes they had a strong deterrent capability.
And then some people ask why Ukraine doesn’t trust Russia, simple, Russia cannot be trusted on any deal.
and now shady trump is proposing to sign another piece of paper
Its high time for Ukraine to start building their own nuclear weapons
We have betrayed them so deeply. 😔
I’m so sorry Ukraine.
Let’s not forget the amount of diplomatic pressure that the west applied to make this happen.
The security guarantees were the promise.
Do NOT trust the US at all. Totally NOT all. The current regime will turn their back on you. Worse than they are already. They cannot be trusted. I am sure they have a scheme running drain all money and property that they can. Then opening up national parks and forest for logging.
I feel bad for the Ukrainian people. I feel bad for your president who to me seems like an honorable man unlike the people he met with in DC.
I’ve tried to help out as much as I can and you’re always in my thoughts.
Slava Ukraini
Bring back Ukraines nukes
Peace means having a bigger stick than the other guy -Stark
Every American who isn’t working right now to remove Trump is my personal enemy. People are dying, and the old golfer thinks the victim should make concessions while imposing sanctions on them. Burn in hell, Trump, and everyone who supports him. I have nothing more to say.
That just makes any nuclear powered nation have absolutely zero incentive to give up their nukes in the future. What a shameful betrayal to humanity.
Ukraine also should send an invoice for their deployment in support of the US invasion of Iraq.
Let that be a lesson for the rest of the world. Never give up your nukes.
Tbh, not for free. From what I remember, they sold their Tu-22m3 strategic bombers for their scrap value – there are archival videos of bulldozers and excavators rolling around tarmac, tearing $200M planes down piece by piece, into pile of scrap worth like $10k each. USA was really scared that they will get sold to some adversary, and got a massive sigh of relief once they were dismantled.
Ukraine was betrayed
Ask our native Americans and Kurds our word and treaties are pure horse shite
Mexican here, NEVER TRUST IN THE USA.
No, that’s not it. They are:
* air-defense systems S-300V1 (four missiles with red caps)
* air-defense systems S-200 (one big missile with wings)
* anti-aircraft self-propelled gun Tunguska
* R-17 Elbrus tactical ballistic missile (one huge missile) with range up to 300 km.
But it mentions in the video that “they were successfully tested in 1997”, that’s definitely post-denuclearisation parade.
R-17 Elbrus were dismantled in Ukraine and other Eastern European countries because of US pressure to do so, because their fuel was highly toxic, and because they could only be serviced with Russia’s help.
“Assurances” not “Guarantees”
This was a big issue in the wording and recognized at the time of as well.
Ukraine did give up it’s nukes, but those are SAM systems and maybe some Tochkas at the end.
Agreements made in good faith… only to have them betrayed by the greedy lust for Ukraine’s riches and territory…
Well, Ukraine got invaded in return. First by Russia and second by the US.
Who can ever trust America again
They are turning off USA weapons remotely
Who will ever want to buy American weapons
They have caused so much damage to themselves
I will imagine all us weapon stocks will plummet
Ukraine never had operational control of these nuclear weapons, they simply happened to exist in that territory when the USSR disolved.
It would have been at least a year or more to render them operational which would have been unacceptable to almost anyone with a say in the matter, and would have resulted in at minimum sanctions if not actual military intervention.
Denuclearization was objectively the correct move at the time.
