French university opens door to US researchers fearing for future under Trump • FRANCE 24 English

America’s scientific community is already feeling the brunt of Donald Trumps proposed cuts, fearing for the future of their work, researchers are looking abroad for opportunities. In France, one university is opening its doors to those seeking refuge. “We did it for scientists in danger in war-torn countries, and now we’re doing it for these colleagues because it’s urgent,” said Eric Berton, president of France’s Aix-Marseille University.

  1. "Researchers" I can guarantee these are government grant hoarders who publish useless papers . DOGE would have gotten to them anyway ,

  2. This doesn't make sense.

Is France replacing the funding American provided?

All that has happened in America is a pause on spending. We are just validating spend and ensuring there are expectations set for the money we spend.

We're bringing basic business principles to government accounting.

  3. Lol they don't know the reality of french funding for research for the past decades. Come to france if you want to become poorer indeed ! 😂

  4. France will find out that US researchers want over $100k salary. But US researchers will find out there is a 50% tax.

  5. I am an American scientist who works at a medical school in Texas. I have had NIH funding for the last 36 years. I can even speak French relatively well. I would come in a nanosecond but I suspect I am a little bit too old for the French system. But I'm thinking of retiring and moving to France anway, and even offering my services for free, perhaps in helping younger French scientists in editing their manuscripts and grant proposals in English. The way things are going I really don't think I can stay here

  6. It is amazing how much flack France withstood for many years regarding many things, but now when the bad times happen, there is no one more prepared than them in Europe.

  7. People seem to be missing the point that the US is not a rich country, and we've been spending ridiculous amounts of money on things we can't afford. It's time to straighten things out.

  8. humanity caring for each other as it should be thank you! this simple unexpected action is foreign to the vile abomination in the white house and throws his agenda off. more of this worldwide unity is a powerful weakener of evil

  9. This is what is called intellectual drain, when a country's intellect leave their home country for another for situations such as these, lack of opportunity, or persecution.

  10. France is reducing their budget for french universities this year? How is this possible to invite americans when french universities are being defunded

  11. I seriously doubt… As my wife is French, I live in France but work remotely for an American company since the salaries offered here are like a joke. And I’m not even American.

  12. French Huguenot here. Science denial is the US is rooted in bigotry. I'm a CNRS researcher. You can apply to cnrs positions, both junior and senior and speaking french is not required. You can also look for position in inrae (agronomy) or INSERM (health). Speaking french is only required for university position since teaching is in French. All these jobs are permanent with full health care. We have great labs in all major cities.

  13. Excellent idea. This is only the start of musk and Trump's fascist state, so who knows how many people may need to flee the USA in future. Trump is crashing the dollar for Putin, so wages will stagnate in the USA.

  14. Of course, we re the one giving money to useless research. They did useless research in USA they got defunded, don t let their EU friends hire them on more bogus research.

  15. The answer wouldn't be to move to France. US universities still have way more research money than French universities. The messaging of this video is totally irrelevant.

  16. What researchers are we talking about ? If it's getting all the gender studies phDs weirdos come to France or elsewhere, they can stay in the US, we don't need another useless blackhole to sink millions into, enough of those in europe already.

  18. So much winning for Americans, so much whining for demorats.
So many liberal tears! It's going to be a loooooong 12 years for the anti-americans!😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

  19. We French higher education establishments (universities, graduate engineering schools) and research agencies are wholeheartedly welcoming any US scientists willing to find a safe haven to freely pursue their research in a high level academic environment.
