Because it depends on what kinds of arms they manufacture. They also don’t update the non-investable company list constantly, because you need to do your due diligence.
It’s very much out in the open that Norway is still producing fossil fuel, producing arms for exports to Israel, and violating the rights of Indigenous peoples living in Norway, and lobbying for deep sea mining.
It took years of lobbying to get the fund to divest from the Keystone Pipeline in U.S. Unless the public bring attention to each “unethical investment”, they’ll continue to do so in broad daylights.
Because we’re also hypocrites. There is next to no political control over what the fund is investing in, outside some vague guidelines they don’t follow half the time
If you want peace, prepare for war.
Israel v palestine is a hot butten issue that’s been going on since the Ottoman empires colonization of the west bank, and many will say even hundreds of years before they invaded the kingdom of Israel.. Israel and Palestine have both done wrongs against eachother, killing eachothers civilians and sometimes their own. If you land on one side being guilt free, you’re naive and probably don’t know too much about the issue other than tweets.
Most will say that backing Israel is backing the lesser evil, and while it’s still morally grey at best to do so, theres also cultural and military incentives which leads to allying with those willing to be an ally in the west bank. Just like Russia backs iran for geo-political reasons like putting pressure on western traderoutes.
Our fund is ment to future proof our country’s economy for as many generations possible and compared to all other large investment portfolios I know of it’s maybe the most ethical overall, regardless which side that UK manufacturer arms in the west bank theater.
Atleast we’re not as unethical as the Swiss. I mean, their businesses are immoral af! Nestle alone has a long history of child labor and countless immoral practices. And the whole Suisse Secrets thing have helped maybe millions of very immoral businesses steeped in blood, many of them weapon manifacturers aswell. One thing is owning a part of a manufacturer carefully selected for investment purposes, another is actively helping warlords, dubious drug companies and mordern slave-owners get away with paying tax to their home countries so the swiss banks can profit from them.
You might wonder why I bring up Switzerland, well because you op are a member of r/switzerland so you should know fully well how their “neutrality” works. If you are swiss yourself, then don’t criticize other countries that invest more ethically than your own.
Don’t forget, we have an Iron Dome like Israel, Switzerland has their very own self funded one. Maybe Norway is not only an investor, but a customer aswell? It’s worth a thought, no?
So you are saying it’s impossible to use arms ethically?
Norway’s sovereign wealth fund was also buying shares in american cannabis-buisness (making a lot of money), but cannabis is forbidden here. All kinds of selling, buying, using and storing cannabis = punished by police & law-system…
What do you think about that ?
Norway is producing weapons. At a large scale.
