A man has gone missing on holiday in Malta with police and rescue services deployed to try and locate him.
Michael Clarkson, 74, from Todmorden in West Yorkshire was last seen leaving the Victoria Hotel in Silema, a town on the northeast of the island, around 4pm on Friday (March 7).
Michael and his wife, Barbara, are on holiday to celebrate their 51st wedding anniversary which is today, Sunday (March 9).
Currently heading to Malta is their son, Steven, to help with the search.
Steven said his dad had set off on a walk from the hotel at around 4pm on Friday but hasn’t been seen since.
“It’s a bit worrying,” he said. Adding: “People at the hotel and the police have been fantastic.”
Steven said his dad going missing was ‘completely out of character’.
He said his dad’s plan on Friday was to go for a short walk before their evening meal.
Barbara was understood to be trying to catch him up at the time he set off and was thought to be ‘two or three minutes’ behind him, reports Yorkshire Live.
Steven said the police on Malta had been informed that he was missing at 11pm that day.
Michael is a former firefighter who also served with the Duke of Wellington Regiment.
