Tesla is in trouble. Musk isn’t helping. The EV maker is seeing a plunge in sales globally, and February marked its worst month on the stock market since 2022. Industry analysts point to Musk’s emergence as a right-wing extremist meddling in politics across the West as a likely factor.

  1. Yeah, and throwing out Nazi salutes when the whole nation is watching you doesn’t help. It’s like driving around in a Nazi symbol.

  2. I mean if Tesla made quality products it wouldn’t matter. Amazon is owned by its own ghoul and it’s doing fine

The problem is so much of Tesla worth is tied to Musks personal standing which it just shouldn’t be and shows how broken the stock market is

  3. It doesn’t matter if he sells another car. He literally owns our treasury department. He owns every cent in your pocket.

  4. “Meddling”

I don’t think that’s the right word here.

  5. Remember when he was trying to be green Jesus? Peppridge farms remember.

  6. “Likely factor” is a strange way to say people hate Nazis

  7. There’s probably a reason why successful business men don’t have a second job in politics

  8. Tesla has less than 2% of the automobile market. The last figure I saw was 1.8%. I’ve gathered that means the stock is slightly overvalued, but I’m not an investor type. Competition is finally offering better value (subjective, I know) vehicles. The industries that support EVs specifically (cradle to grave), are generally still ramping up. I think Elon will be considered the spark that started the transition, but will become unimportant outside of that eventually. Personally, removing Elon from the company would benefit the company, all those who work for Tesla and its stock price after it bottoms out.

  9. He is going to try to cash out…he has mentally checked out from the company already.

  10. One significant fact that was left out of this story and others — TSLA’s market cap is $845b. GM, for comparison, is $45b. Ford is $39b. It appears not everyone thinks the company’s future is dimming.

  11. Not to worry. The wealthy Chinese will prop him up. Muskrat is no better than Trumpp.

  12. I will never consider a Tesla until he’s gone and I don’t think i am alone in that thought process.

  13. Big banks are still pumping Tesla stock artificially. So MAGA will be Fine

  14. Is he really an extremist or do people think that because you call him that. I’d call him an enthusiast.

  15. I think if these were genuinely great cars, that were unequivocally the best options, his politics would have less of an impact. Not saying zero, but in my experience the vast majority of consumers make purchasing decisions on core consumer factors, not usually the politics of the ownership. (E.g. look at how little an impact the gay marriage stuff had on Chick-fil-a, or the pro-life stuff had on Domino’s pizza or the general MAGA had on Home Depot.)

The thing is, Teslas have always, IMO, been poorly made. They have some key features that, in the 2010s EV market, they were truly best in class. If, for some reason, you were just hyper desperate to be in an EV, they were your best option. But I think most factors that don’t include “obsession with EVs”, showed Teslas to be kind of crappy cars all along.

I used to argue this years ago, back when Musk was still Tweeting left leaning, progressive stuff (you can literally find Tweets from Musk praising LGBTQ people in 2018 and earlier.) Back then the right largely ignored Musk, but didn’t like EVs, and the left loved Musk and loved EVs. I regularly found myself under attack when I would point out the many build quality issues with Teslas, or the common Musk business practice of dramatically overpromising Tesla features he never delivered.

Back then, that was a good way to get ran out of many online spaces. Now, it is more popular to bash Musk, and when I criticize Tesla I often get MAGA respondents attacking me.

Same deal, different crowd of haters lol.

At the end of the day I think Teslas just aren’t that great. If you value a car being an EV over any other factor it’s a different assessment, but IMO a more broad market comparison has never demonstrated Teslas as being a great purchase. I think when a brand is overvalued (and the fact Tesla is currently valued more than all American automakers combined, should show you it is overvalued), it is more susceptible to people suddenly realizing the Emperor has no clothes and bailing on the stock. Tesla’s stock price, unlike that of Ford or GM, has nothing to do with its revenue, profit margin, its book value etc. It’s purely hype.

That being said, a lot of big money is behind the hype now, a lot of analysts have made a lot of money recommending TSLA, a lot of major institutional investors hold TSLA. Due to this the stock price is going to find a lot of “support” at pretty high price levels. I don’t expect a massive collapse in the price, I could be wrong though. I do think “eventually”, the price will bear more resemblance to its fundamentals, but I think it will be a multi-year thing where the glow slowly fades off the stock and people exit at various price points, likely the occasionally good quarter will keep it from ever collapsing.

  16. It’s too late everyone. Tesla has been mortally wounded. People won’t invest again because of Musk and sales will only go down from here.
Blood is in the water. It’s become a joke now. It wasn’t even a very good car to begin with. The only way it can be saved is if Elon is chopped.
    He won’t allow that.
So the people are now going to make an example of him by ruining Tesla for him.
These billionaires have so much power they forget the simple power of millions saying “Fuck You!”
Actions have consequences Elon you fascist thief.

  17. Why does the car maker’s politics matter? Henry Ford was a famous anti-Semite, BMW and Mercedes collaborated with the Nazis et al – Teslas are great cars and if not for them there never would have been an EV movement

  18. Imore likely because Chinese EVs are at parity if not surpassed Tesla in tech , range and being cheaper

  19. Should we start a countdown clock on when his loans default? And then he’s screwed

  20. Yes, Musk is part of the problem, but the company is stagnant and not delivering on its promises (FSD, robotics, AI, affordable models, etc).

  21. Tesla is a Nazi Car. The Nazi Truck looks like a Giant Trash Dumpster
