Israel says it is cutting off its electricity supply to Gaza

1. I’m surprised they were supplying electricity during the war to begin with. Normally you don’t supply your opponent things during hostilities or do any trade with them.

   That would be like Japan buying oil from the US during WW2, or Russia buying electricity from Ukraine, or Iran importing goods from Israel.

   Gaza effectively received its independence in 2005 when Israel completely withdrew and left the full administration of Gaza up to the Palestinians. They had full functioning infrastructure already set up. Unfortunately, they proceeded to elect Hamas, who’s first act was to murder its political rivals, then it engaged in acts of war against Egypt and Israel resulting in fortified border walls from both countries.

   One of the things that happens when a country declares war on its neighbor is that trade is generally cut off completely. So if you rely on your neighbor for important things, such as electricity, its probably best not to declare war on them.

   It would be like if the Vatican declared war on Italy, or Monaco declared war on France. It would be incredibly foolish on the part of the smaller country to pick a fight with its much larger neighbor.

3. what this article conveniently neglects to mentions, it’s that line that got disconnected been active only since July when it was connected directly to desalination plant.

   desalination plant is out of service for a few weeks already, so disconnecting power doesn’t change anything.
