€53 Weekly Shop – having come to Ireland from another country, I think the quality:price ratio here is epic.

  1. Meat and dairy products are superb quality compared to any country I’ve been to. We need to keep these industries alive in Ireland regardless of certain people’s agendas

  2. When I was in Ireland, I found the prices of non-processed/prepared foods was excellent. Seems like that’s how you shop as well.

In the United States, I feel that this is inverted.

  3. Where are you from?

Ireland’s supermarket environment is very competitive despite what people might say.

The downside is offers which create waste while being at the expense of the suppliers.

Farmers, horticulture growers get a bad deal from the food processor giants in cahoots with the big chains.

  4. I see you’ve fallen into the ‘protein” label trap

  5. How can you have any pudding if you don’t eat your meat!?

  6. Agree. I’m Canadian, came here five years ago. In that time, some food prices have doubled in Canada. They’re up here too, but not nearly the same level. And it’s so much more processed and full of sugar. Not quite as bad as America, but not nearly as good as here in Ireland. You can do a lot better here both price and quality.

  7. No spuds, no bread, no pasta… What is this?????

  8. I notice this every time I’m home from Belgium.

The price is almost half, and the quality double compared to here. And inflation is running riot.

  9. Trying to figure out your meals is the real treat here.

  10. I’ve come to really appreciate our food in Ireland. I moved to the UAE last year and sweet Jesus the price and quality is so terrible. Everything is so processed and Americanised.

I miss the Irish bread and meat the most.

  11. Excuse me, what is this?

Positivity about Ireland is strictly prohibited on this sub /s

  12. Protein snack bars, drinks, deserts are highly/ultra processed so I would put them in the category of “now and again” and not an everyday thing. A very Cheap source of high quality Protein is gelatin, jello, or bone stock.

  13. Side question – those protein shakes – are they legit good for protein intake, trying to increase protein intake without breaking the bank!

  14. Agreed.

I hear most people complain about how expensive their weekly shop is. If you’re buying unprepared food, I think it’s actually very cheap and manageable. €30-40 per person per week is really doable if you know what you’re doing.

  15. I think for the quality you can eat and cook really well in Ireland.

  16. I’m more interested in the contents… if this is what people’s weekly shop generally looks like, its beginning to make sense why I’m chunky. What way do you eat? Like do you have three meals a day/ less? Is everything you need for the week in this pile?

  17. This would not feed me for a week, maybe for dinners and snacks

  18. Ah now lad, no teabags? For shame.

    Good haul though ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|thumbs_up)

  19. For me in Texas, a bag of standard groceries (milk, eggs, chicken breasts, vegatables) is often around the $100 mark. When I was home at Christmas, I replicated the exact same shop in Lidil for €30..

  20. A good few comments here saying how this wouldn’t feed people for a week. That’s plenty of food to last you 7 days.

No wonder we’re second in the obesity list in Europe, and climbing the ladder worldwide!!

  21. Brooklea yogurt and the diced-up chicken fillets are class.

  22. You’re not allowed talk positively about about shopping prices in here ❌
