#‘SCOUSE ESCOBAR’ AND HIS FATHER JAILED AFTER RUNNING £200M DRUG EMPIRE

A Liverpool drug kingpin who styled himself after Pablo Escobar kept his multi-million-pound narcotics empire running even from behind bars. Christopher Welsh Jr, nicknamed “Scouse Escobar”, worked alongside his father, Christopher Welsh Sr, to flood the streets with heroin and cocaine, funnelling vast quantities to criminal networks in Glasgow. Their operation, meticulously tracked by the former organised crime unit Titan, saw at least 111 drug runs crisscrossing the country, each potentially moving kilos of illicit substances worth a staggering total of up to £200 million.

Despite being unemployed, Welsh Jr lived a life of excess. His fortune, built on addiction and despair, funded lavish holidays and a £57,000 wedding in Cancun, where he and his associates brazenly wore shirts celebrating the infamous Colombian drug lord. He coordinated the sprawling enterprise with at least 43 burner phones, managing couriers and suppliers with military precision. His gang dubbed the “dirty thirty”, moved freely across the country, dressing smartly to avoid suspicion, with one member successfully making 18 trips before being caught on his 19th.

The law finally caught up with the Welshes in 2013. As they stood before the judge, the court heard of the devastating consequences of their trade, with addicts left “desolate and despairing” in alleyways. Both father and son were sentenced to lengthy prison terms, bringing a dramatic end to their reign over one of Britain’s most lucrative drug networks.
