Syrian security forces accused of killing hundreds of civilians

1. Syria’s current leader Ashaar has called for peace after fighting between pro-Assad insurgents and the Syrian Security Forces has killed over 1000 people. Of these, at least 750 are Alawite civilians, who have been the target of tens of massacres across western Syria in the Latakia and Tartus provinces. Many people are fleeing into Lebanon or seeking shelter in Russian military bases as a result of this. Though reprisal killings aren’t entirely unexpected for a war as chaotic as the Syrian Civil War, this level of violence is virtually unprecedented and threatens to destabilize the current government.
