The current German Travel Analysis 2024 shows an increasing demand from German holidaymakers for trips to Austria. In particular, the number of main holiday trips lasting at least five days rose by 16 percent to 2,93 million. Spending on trips to Austria also increased significantly, reaching 3,76 billion euros, an increase of 25 percent.

In addition to longer stays, Austria also remains the most popular short-trip destination abroad. The number of short trips lasting two to four days increased by three percent to 3,5 million. Nevertheless, the market share fell slightly compared to the previous year. The average cost of a short trip to Austria was 422 euros per person. Holiday regions in the Alps and activities such as hiking, skiing and cycling are particularly popular.

Austria’s popularity is also reflected in the number of overnight stays, which are particularly high in the summer and winter months. A particularly large number of German guests come from Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg and North Rhine-Westphalia. Targeted marketing strategies are intended to further increase interest in travel to Austria. According to the study, around eight million Germans have taken at least one holiday in Austria in the last three years, and 5,4 million are already planning another trip in the next three years.
