Glimmer Athletic Club Barrie recently travelled to Estonia to compete in the prestigious Miss Valentine Tartu Grand Prix, one of the largest rhythmic gymnastics competitions in the world.
The event brought together over 1,500 gymnasts from 55 countries, and our local athletes made a big impression on the international stage.
Carmel Kallemaa, the club’s top senior athlete and Team Canada member, delivered outstanding performances.
She won a bronze medal in the Grand Prix competition and added two gold medals and a silver in the group category. Thanks to her high results, Carmel has now been invited to compete in the next Grand Prix series in Marbella, Spain, and Thiais, France, where she will represent Team Canada among the world’s best gymnasts.
For two young Barrie gymnasts, Stefania Nafanailov and Sofia Druc, this was their first international competition. Stefania made history by winning the Mini Miss Valentine title, a remarkable achievement for such a young gymnast. Sofia impressed, securing a high top-four placement in her category.
Head coach Janika Mölder was proud of the team’s accomplishments: “I see big growth in the girls over the summer and fall training. They have improved a lot and shown that they are capable of taking the world stage. I’m certain that our hardworking Barrie coaches in Glimmer Athletic Club are on the right track, and we will see lots of good results in the future.”
Glimmer Athletic Club continues to inspire and develop young gymnasts and this competition was another step toward even greater achievements. Congratulations to all the athletes!
