Stopped buying palm oil because so much of it comes from supposed slave and/or child labor.
Similar to chocolate, I try to go out of my way to make sure I’m only buying it from companies that at least kinda try to have a soul
Palm oil offers significantly higher yield per land area compared to alternatives like sunflower and olive oil. Replacing it would likely increase vegetable oil costs and require substantial land expansion in regions like Europe.
EU has been campaigning very hard against palm oil for decades to protect their own olive and sunflower oil. It is only recently they finally try to make a ‘sustainable palm oil legislation ‘ due this or next year after decades. I doubt they will promote it as much as their own products but that’s capitalism.
