The Ukrainian armed forces have begun testing the transition to Eutelsat Konnect VHTS One Web. Speed up to 200 Mbps Ping 60 ms. The complete transition could take as little as a month. Starlink can then be decommissioned.

  1. “The complete transition could take as little as a month.”

I wonder who writes this stuff

  2. Tesla sales down, SpaceX blows up, Starlink will be replaced.

    Are you having fun Elon?

  3. Let’s hope it wont be necessary, but be prepared for the eventuality.

Deals and alliances have proven to be unreliable – contingencies must be ready

  4. I used to instagib noobs in Unreal Tournament on my 56k modem back in 1999 with that sort of latency. 60ms won’t be a problem for dealing with Ivan. DOMINATION!

  5. Eutelsat OneWeb supposedly has a crash order to supply 40,000 terminals.

No way that gets done in one month. 6 months is more realistic

  6. This is excellent news. Starlink is tainted by US betrayal along with all their overpriced weapons.

  7. But but but king Elon said starlink cannot be replaced 🧐

  8. Just wait for starlink satellites to collide with eutelsat’s. “Abnormal satellite realignment issues” incoming.

  9. Ha ha I told you so: Europe may sucks at producing large amounts of weaponry (compared to the USA), **but** on space matters, we are pretty good if not a world leader colossus. France has pushed Europe space application programs since the 1960’s, and now it pays handily. Ariane 6 may suffer compared to SpaceX but on the satellite front, Europe has no lesson to learn from anybody: Spot, Eutelsat, Inmarsat (remember MH370 pings ?) SPOT, Galileo, Meteosat, countless others.

Eutelsat salvaging of OneWeb from Greg Wyler was a pretty good bargain, when you think about it. It provided Europe with a Starlink-like constellation without starting from scratch (this is Iris2, in passing).

Greg Wyler in 2007 was the pioneer of broadand Internet satellite constellations: a few years before Musk. Unfortunately for Wyler he did not had Musk deep pockets and also rockets to launch its constellation. So OneWeb history has been a troubled one… until Eutelsat jumped on it to get a Starlink competitor quickly and on a silver plate. A very smart move !

  10. Why would you announce this.. just do the transfer and then tell the world after.. musk et al are petty enough to cut it immediately

  11. but there is no substitute said musk 🤭
let’s hope this is working out and a scalable solution

  12. It’s pretty sad, as for years I rather enjoyed the progress SpaceX was making, and thought starlink was quite an achievement. Elon was a bit eccentric but, atleast his projects had a real positive impact in fields I was interested in.

Now I want nothing more than for them to fail as Elon’s tyranny has completely put me off anything to do with him. Not that the signs weren’t there, but 100’s of lives weren’t on the line when having his rocket pissing contests with Bezos.

  13. Fuck yeah, this is amazing news.

And to think, once they’re free from the fucking loser basement-dwelling Muskrat in a costume, Ukraine’s (and hopefully other sane countries) technology will only get better as they advance their own systems.

  14. Rubeo asking for Poland to say thankyou for starlink , the same starlink they pay for. The US is just beyond cretinous at this point

  15. Even if Starlink is “allowed” by the two presidents, it can no longer be trusted.

  16. # 🚨 Eutelsat: A Viable Replacement for Starlink in Ukraine?

With Elon Musk restricting **Starlink access**, Ukraine is urgently seeking **alternative satellite communication networks**. One leading candidate? **Eutelsat-OneWeb**, Europe’s growing competitor to Starlink.

    ## **1️⃣ How Critical is Starlink to Ukraine?**
🔹 Used by **civilians & military** for communication in war zones.
🔹 Vital for **command, control, and drone operations** (before SpaceX restricted military use).
🔹 **Currently funded by Poland**, after U.S. & private donors stepped back.

    ## **2️⃣ How Does Eutelsat Compare?**
✅ **Europe’s Best Option:** **Eutelsat-OneWeb** is the **only other operational low-earth orbit (LEO) network** outside of Starlink.
✅ **Strong European Backing:** France & UK **own 24.8%** of Eutelsat, aligning it with EU interests.
    ✅ **Comparable Performance:**
    – **Starlink:** Up to **200 Mbps**
    – **Eutelsat-OneWeb:** Up to **150 Mbps**, but supported by **35 geostationary satellites**.

    ⚠️ **Key Challenges:**
    – **Cost:** Eutelsat’s **terminals are ~$10,000**, far more than Starlink’s **$589 devices**.
    – **Subscription Prices:** Could range from **$100-$500 per month**, depending on usage.
    – **Funding Unclear:** Ukraine would need **EU & NATO financial backing** to scale operations.

    ## **3️⃣ Are There Other Alternatives?**
🛰 **SES O3b mPOWER (Luxembourg):** Supports **NATO communications** but **not consumer-friendly**.
🛰 **EU IRIS² & GOVSATCOM:** Promising, but **years away from full deployment**.
🛰 **Amazon Kuiper:** **Untrustworthy** due to **Jeff Bezos’ shifting ties with Trump**.

    ## **4️⃣ What’s the Best Path Forward?**
🚨 **Eutelsat-OneWeb is Ukraine’s best alternative**, but needs **funding & logistical support**.
✅ **EU must step up investment & integrate it into NATO’s defense strategy.**
✅ **Diversify networks to reduce dependence on a single provider.**

💡 **Lesson from Starlink:** No single entity—especially one controlled by a billionaire—should hold **the fate of an entire nation’s communication network**. **Europe must build its own!**

  17. Holy shit! Those Ukrainians probably have the biggest balls on this planet.

Fighting a horrible war, keeping research and productivity incredibly high and actually making the entire world a much better place.
Damn I love you guys so incredibly much!

  18. Now ban X! Now ban X!! The joy I feel watching his empire decline is almost making up for the massive losses I am making in US equities!

  19. This would be a crash project if I was in command. Besides the potential for further unanticipated disruption due to the political games being played, there’s a very real security threat here. You cannot trust that Musk isn’t siphoning off data for his own use and/or that it’s being given to the Russians. Supply chain attacks are a thing.

  20. Speed and Ping remains questionable considering theres 10s of thousands of people using Starlink on the Front. We use private Starlinks and the Speed is horrible. I guess if they use Eutelsat for official Capacity, it would take Pressure off Starlink and subsequently, hopefully increase the speeds of private Starlinks.

  21. Canceled my T-Mobile plan once I saw they teamed up with Starlink.

  22. Kinda funny if starlink has a massive loss of clients because nobody wants to pay for a service that can be shutdown anytime a certain man baby has a fit
