US should understand Russia is a DECLINING great power: By not recognizing this strategic reality, Trump administration is giving succour to Kremlin myths Russia should be recognised as the equal of the US, in a similar manner as they believe was the Soviet Union.

  1. He wants a strong russia so that he can attempt to extort his countries allies with violence from them.

I assume our leaders see this as clear as day, and are planning for it (who am I kidding?).

  2. The first year under King Trump will herald in their decline into an isolationist ‘safe space’ that their far right seem to need.

  3. I don’t think Trump thinks that strategically. His experience is that there are several Russian billionaires who have bought lots of properties that he’s owned. Therefore Russians are good to him and useful.

  4. It’s too late, Trump abdicated as Leader of the Free World. It will take at minimum 18 months to eject him from office. Maybe longer. This has been a complete capitulation to Putin. I hope Europe can save Ukraine, but they are still too comfortably numb.

  5. Succor is MMWAH, perfecto.

    Donald “Succour” Trump.

  6. Russia’s economy is smaller than Canada’s. Combined, Europe’s is larger than both America’s and China’s. And Trump favours developing trade with Russia over Europe??

Trump isn’t playing 3D chess. He’s playing tiddlywinks. Biden steered a post COVID economy into the strongest in the world. Trump is going to drive it into Recession.

  7. It’s recognized, that’s why Trump is trying so hard to stop it

  8. Trump never left the 80’s. Putin also, just products of their time- now past their shelf life.

  9. I think most people don’t understand it. For most of us, the global fight is about freedom/democracy versus dictatorship and brutality.

For trump its the white versus the Chinese and others. Thats why they have zero problems with russia, but they have all the problems with european countries that are not on the path to dictatorship.

Trump is bascially impressed how well CCP did with their iron fist. And he wants to replicate that.

  10. “Hey we can succon whoever we wanna succon buddy!” -Trump administration

  11. Trump, like most old people with declining mental health, can only remember the distant past. During the height of the Cold War, the Soviet Union was immensely powerful and in many ways, an equal to the US at the time.

That was many decades ago and so much has changed. Russia pissed away an opportunity to be prosperous and instead chooses to be bellicose.

Just think for a minute, Russia can’t even fight Ukraine now. Even if they were to occupy their neighbor, it would take at least 5 times the forces they currently have. And that’s before the guerilla warfare in the cities.

Russia already learned this lesson in Afghanistan. And every American military leader knows these facts too. But how do you convince someone to be rational when they are so mentally impared?

  12. I’ve been saying strike russia now while they are weak. Remove Putin and his government, put in a friendly regime to the west.

  13. They aren’t even a DECLINING great power. I read another redditor put it thusly: “Russia is a gas station with nukes.”

  14. Even Russia would benefit from the war ending at this point. Although Putin may possibly not benefit, if it has the potential to cost him his life and/or power.

  15. Those who have been in the federal government for some time and have been steering the ship correctly have been fully aware of this. What must be understood is that the current president does not care. This is made very clear by the fact that Trump is essentially conceding everything to the Russian position, without making any demands from Russia, without Russia changing course or getting anything in return.

Even as a Russian plant this is just bad negotiation.

  16. Ruzzia should be accorded the diplomatic status of a banana republic.
