  1. > The “illegal nature of it” didn’t occur to the defendant when he brought the garda to the room, his solicitor said.

    > Ms Neilis said Baxter’s wife had been diagnosed with cancer in 2019 and he had started growing the plants with a view to extracting cannabis oil for medicinal purposes.

    > Judge Dermot Dempsey struck out the case after a €1,000 donation was made to the court poor box.

  2. What a waste of time and money. Does anyone actually believe that this man should be in court?

He could drown himself in vodka and become an absolute burden to the health services and nobody would bat an eye.

  3. Woman who spits on a Garda while saying she has Covid gets a €600 fine while a man growing weed for personal use gets €1000 fine. What an idiotic legal system we have in this country. Do judges have any discretion in interpretting and applying drugs laws? This case is a waste of everyone’s time.

  4. Judge McGrath in Tipperary is an absolute disgrace regarding Cannabis. She should be imprisoned herself or sacked for her backwardness and bullying.

  5. Absolute waste of tax payers money, all these violent criminals free to roam the streets with suspended sentences …

When will this country wake up and legalise …

  6. I agree that it’s a waste of resources ***buuut*** yer man is some fool, knew the guard was comin for a **routine** inspection on a legally owned fire arm and walked the guard into the room with the 3 plants. How thick could ya get like

  7. Here’s the real kicker, the first ever medical case study on the health benefits of weed was done by a irish priest who moved to England and took up science, for the people who say that it has no place in our culture don’t know our history. Hemp was grown all over the east of Ireland to be used in rope making for ships this was a major industry in Ireland up until the the timber companies seen hemp was about to overtake wood so they beganthe slander on the poor black people in America and here we are today with the same mind set that weed is the most evil gateway drug of them all….while more kids smoke tobacco and drink then smoke weed.

The poor man trying to help his sick wife by any means gets named and shamed in the papers the same way a man who was found with child porn or a scumbag of a woman who splits in a gards face telling him she has covid. It makes no sense to name and shame a man for a drug I say about 70% of people in politics and law have tried……I even know people in serious high paying jobs who partake in smoking weed regularly…..some doctors and some with massive businesses, all up stand citizens.

Ireland needs to get its head out of the 1970s and realise its 2022 and people are educated in this topic more so then the law makers themselves, the most dangerous part of smoking weed is THE TOBACCO people mix in, its like drinking a alcohol free beer with bleach

  8. Not sure if it’s been mentioned but let’s not forget the €200 charity donation someone from Keogh’s farm had to donate after being found with 39 plants for “recreational use”.
Absolute shit show, at least this man had reasons for growing and is terminally ill. But for capitalist reasons the more money you have the less you pay :))

  9. I sincerely hope his wife gets better and I’m sure that 1000 euro would of probably went to some form of medical bills, yet he’s fined a grand , that’s actually sickening that judge has no compassion.
