In Germany, the hunt for Nazis is drawing to a close • FRANCE 24 English

As Germany commemorates the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Nazi concentration camps, FRANCE 24 looks at the slowly-ending hunt for Nazis in the country. After the Nuremberg trials it seemed as if the trail had gone cold on Nazi war criminals. And it was only in 2009 that the hunt for Nazis resumed with the trial of John Demjanjuk. Anne Mailliet, François Rihouay, Willy Mahler and Nick Holdworth report.

  1. I'm curious if they're still hunting Imperial Japanese who committed even worse crimes. Idk why only Germans are held to collective guilt but everyone just gets to say oops, my bad and all is forgiven.

I guess France also forgot about its war crimes in Algeria and Madagascar.

  2. Meanwhile, Reinefarth, responsible for massacring 60,000 people, after the war was protected by Germany and elected mayor of Sylt

  3. 2:48 – By the way, in that 2009 case; of what nationality was Demjanjuk?

"Drawing to a close" . . We will never forget.

  4. "complicit in the murder of 300.000 people"! How are there people that want to let him walk free? It makes me very worried. "der Schoß ist fruchtbar noch – aus dem das kroch". Bertolt Brecht

  5. Even if some don’t get to be convicted, we know they lived their entire lives in fear of being caught. At least that’s something.

  6. If being a "cog" is sufficient to be tried, then EVERY German born before 1927 could be tried since they were "cogs" in the establishment and support of the NSDAP regime and its actions.

  7. Some of them probably can't even remember the war…I'm 65 and my memory has slipped. I feel that some of these hunters are becoming what I fear are blood seeking for self glory and revenge, not closure or justice. It's long past time to close these cases and let the Lord take justice…He is quite capable you know.

  8. In my opinion; its time to move on… this was a different a different world a long time ago… There are things that need to be solved today, not going after people that are almost 100 years old

  9. When I was stationed in Germany (78 – 80) I had the opportunity to visit Dachau. That was one place where I didn't take pictures. It just didn't seem right to me.

  10. Pinche Payaso’s. As an American I see the way things are in Germany now. People stabbed and raped yet they letting these foo’ run wild in the streets and instead chasing elder people glad I don’t live there. 😂all backwards

  11. Laughably ineffectual and shamefully self-serving. Where was this impetus when the criminals were still alive and hadn't died off from natural causes? Pathetic. This is nothing more than a feel-good gesture, one that is patronizing and exploitative of the survivors who gave testimony and placed some faith in 'the system.' Germany won't even enforce, charge and prosecute their existing laws against their newest 'guests,' and the latter are hell-bent on Germany's (and the West's) destruction.

  12. Enough bashing Germans [& Austrians]. Look at us Yanks: we exterminated the American Indians! And no museum? But we love to watch cowboys & Indians!😁😜

  13. So it 70 years time Germany will also persecute those raping immigrants who are holding Germany into their grip?

  14. Not only are these men too old to serve any time BUT they were just following orders.
At the time they were in the army, they had pride for their country and their cause, just like us americans.
They had a great sense of duty, honor and country. Just like us, they had pride in their cause. They felt like what they were doing was right.
I don't blame them for that.

  15. The anti-christ trumpy rumpys is in America. Come get the slob now. MAKE AMERICA TRUMPLESS AGAIN FRANKLIN. 🤘🃏🎸🇺🇲

  16. Not in any way condoning what happened back then. But, these were soldiers, doing what soldiers do, following orders. The High Ranking persons, ones who "gave" the orders, from the top of the command chain, different story perhaps.

  17. ]WEF and the EU should also be held accountable for the crimes they have committed on humanity but there allowed to get away with it, i'm sick of people manipulating our future for the to get rich SICK OF IT
