The Woodside branch of Farmfoods has closed, more than 50 years after it opened as the company’s first ever store.
The company started in Aberdeen in 1954 as a meat processing business.
It was in the 1970s that the fledgling frozen food firm opened up a shop in what had been the Herd’s butcher unit at 160/162 Great Northern Road.
Why would they close it?
Farmfoods is a strange one.
They came from a butcher to end up selling quite low quality frozen food.
They never really positioned themselves to cater to another area of the market. I.e an area with much more money to spend.
But that’s exactly what farm foods are. High quality, fresh food, the complete opposite of what this shop did.
Somewhere another management team can put a business together rivalling Whole Foods
