Fortum has completed its study on the future conditions for new nuclear power. For two years, the company extensively studied the commercial, technological, societal, political and legislative prerequisites for new nuclear power in Finland and Sweden. The study assessed both small modular reactors (SMRs) and conventional large reactors.

In its report, Fortum assesses the need for new nuclear power and its prerequisites as part of a broader question: How much and what kind of electricity production will be needed to ensure security of supply in the Nordics, enabling industry and transport to electrify and new clean industrial investments in the Nordic countries?
