> The royal family were involved in the transportation and selling of people for profit for centuries, with Elizabeth I becoming involved in the lucrative dealings of John Hawkins, one of Britain’s first slave traders in the 16th century.
> When his first adventure proved successful and his ships returned laden with goods, she supported his future expeditions by providing vessels to carry the human cargo.
> The connections between the royal family and slavery continued with Charles II, who encouraged the expansion of the slave trade.
> He granted a charter to a group of men, the Royal Adventurers, who later became the Royal African Company, and the monarch and the Duke of York invested their private funds in the venture.
> The Church of England was implicated in slavery. Slaves were owned by the Anglican Church’s Society for the Propagation of the Gospel in Foreign Parts (SPGFP), which had sugar plantations in the West Indies. When slaves were emancipated by Act of the British Parliament in 1834, the British government paid compensation to slave owners. The Bishop of Exeter, Henry Phillpotts, and three business colleagues acted as trustees for John Ward, 1st Earl of Dudley when he received compensation for 665 slaves.[64] **The compensation of British slaveholders was almost £17 billion in current money.**
> In context, **the £20 million voted by Parliament to compensate slave owners under the 1833 Act can be compared with the Gross Domestic Product of the UK in 1832, which was £459 million.**
There was one yesterday about the visit which was deleted due to ‘having no or tangential relation to the UK. This sub is for the UK/Commonwealth only’.
Given Jamaica is a member or the Commonwealth, I think the mods need to remember they shouldn’t censor a topic even if they don’t like it.
This sub is obsessed with shit posting about the royal family.
If reparations actually did happen (which is ludicrous in my opinion) who do you think would actually end up footing the bill? The elites? Or the rest of us?
I’ll give you a clue, it would be us. As if the economic situation in this country isn’t bad enough
Every single person alive today has descended from people who worked, ate, bought and sold anything has benefitted from slavery. Every one!
We really need to dig into royal finances and find out the scale of the problem, there was some promising progress when some of Queenie’s hidden wealth was found in the Paradise Papers leaks but of course nobody in the fine journalistic establishment seemed to care enough to keep digging.
Well Ja! Including modern day slavery when they are supported by the tax of the poorest people in society working factory jobs, just getting by or relying on food banks because of the piss poor wages by companies worth billions. Then you also have to pay a percentage to keep the royal family. But they sure do know how to cut the shit out of a ribbon! So it’s worth it 🤪
Bearing in mind slavery was abolished in the UK in 1807, it’s a bit of a stretch…
Was this allegation ever thrown at the Queen or Charles? Not that it is wrong to say the same to William and Kate, however saying it to the ruling monarch or the heir apparent would have greater effect.
And the Mail accusing Meghan of being an actual slave owner in three… two… one…
They owe people from the British Isles first, if we’re going on chronology. I dislike the royals on principle, but to be fair to them this particular dynasty wasn’t in charge when the slave trade was a thing.
So William and Kate and dancing in the Caribbean and eating Chocolate whilst there is a war in Europe and millions of refugees are homeless. The nation would have more respect if the millions spent on this trip was out to good use to help this displaced.

UPDATE: [Dan Wootton has taken to Twitter to say Meghan is responsible for the break-up of the Commonwealth. The Daily Mail have endorsed and repeated the story.](https://twitter.com/DailyMailUK/status/1506796827097636870?t=QE6Z1PkVHRlzq2fsDsDPHw&s=03)

Despicable billionaire ignorance.
