  1. Why doesn’t RFK get measles himself and prove to everyone it’s not so bad?

  2. Or we could all get vaccinated and nobody gets measles? Fuck this timeline.

  3. Vaccination is safer, but I’m not a heroin addict with brain worms

  4. “Let’s get immunity the worst possible way”

  5. how does this not fire off the conspiracy headbangers wiring? It’s biological warfare on his own people.

  6. “What if we just didn’t prevent diseases” isn’t a new idea. It’s been tested. For thousands of years. It turns out that what happens if you don’t prevent diseases is that more people die.

  7. They do! Through a thorough vaccine program.
Problem solved, noone get sick, disease almost eradicated.

  8. sure, but measels are dangerous, if only you could get a safer version of the virus, that doesn`t get you sick, but creates the antibodies you need…

maybe someday we will be able to invent something like that

  9. He’s insane. He even looks like a gawd dang maniac. WTF is wrong with this moron?

  10. While the mortality rate of measles is relatively low approximately one in every 500 children who get it. The mortality rate of the measles vaccine is approximately one in 1 million. Just suggesting that everyone should just get measles should be grounds for immediate dismissal.

Edit and just before all the fucking Reddit nerds coming for me this back of the napkin math. vaccines are likely safer than one in 1 million but it’s a conservative number just to give you a raw case estimate on why vaccines are important. For those misunderstanding the post I am pro vaccine.. the numbers measles deaths are a little complicated ranging anywhere from 1 in 1000 to 3 in 1000 I split the difference at 1 in 500. It is general statistic that is easy to understand and supportable without having to read a 30 page study for Reddit. This is not the New England Journal of Medicine nor is this a medical sub Reddit it is a political sub Reddit. The amount of people that I am on the side of coming for me on this is absolutely insane. I don’t have the time or inclination to do a three month long blind study for Reddit. I can use general information that shows the proper trend or a correct generalization should be enough for the Reddit.

  11. Man if only there was a safe way to introduce a weakened version of the measles virus to your immune system so your body develops immunity. /s

  12. So basically, this administration is going to gaslight the country into weakening itself on all fronts. From, It’s good to get the measles, and the advantages of a trade war, to patriots don’t mind paying more for things, tearing down the agencies that were built to make our country better, to alienating our allies, etc.

I don’t see what the end-game is. As people become poorer, and education suffers, and diseases that we thought we conquered begin to spread, how is this advantageous to Trump and Musk ?

  13. This is giving a death sentence to many children and elderly and will increases the strain on an already stained medical system. Just get vaccinated.

  14. This asshole is neither a virologist nor a medical doctor.  He has been spreading disinformation for years and now he has a false air of authority due to his egregious appointment.

  15. He’s in charge of keeping the population healthy and his suggestion is to make them all sick.

  16. I have a great idea, why don’t we give everyone measles, but just like really weak doses. Just enough for our immune system to learn how to fight it off but not strong enough to get us sick. We can administer it to everyone at a certain age. How does that sound.

  17. this is like saying “don’t prevent wild fires… let everything burn out and there will be no more fires!”

  18. It would be best if Trump/Musk’s terror regime had never come to pass.

  19. Get a disease to build up resistance to it…I think there is a word for this…

  20. Measles wipes out your immunologic memory, not only would you get measles but now you’re at an increased risk for everything else you’ve been vaccinated for. This is the danger of letting those outside of medicine make decisions for healthcare

  21. Ok. I’m convinced there is truly something *very* wrong with this guy. How do republicans in congress justify approving this nut?

  22. Tell me you’re Pestilence, a horseman of the apocalypse, without telling me.

  23. So let me get this straight—getting **the full force of measles**, with all the risks of blindness, brain inflammation, and death, is somehow **better** than safely priming your immune system with a vaccine? That’s like saying the best way to learn to swim is to drown first.

And if the argument is that “natural exposure makes you stronger,” then why wouldn’t a vaccine—which exposes your immune system to the pathogen in a controlled way—also make you stronger? Oh wait, that’s **exactly** how vaccines work.

RFK Jr. is basically advocating for the biological equivalent of letting kids play in traffic to toughen them up. It’s idiotic and dangerous.

  24. Some of you may die , but that’s a risk I’m willing to take.

  25. This man is at best description, disturbed. You really must question the folks that put him in this position as well. This is what happens when you do not hold people accountable for pulling the fire alarm and then locking the door.

  26. Nah, I’m good thanks. But you can go get Measles if you want. Get a big ole bowl of Measles. Gobble ‘em up. Part of your complete breakfast. Shithead.

  27. Interesting, especially the infectious disease microbiologists at my work have said several times over the years that a measles outbreak is one of their worst real world scenarios.

  28. Since it obvious that general knowledge and critical thinking in the US has significantly taken a hit in the last decade here is some information about Measles.

Measles is one of the world’s most contagious diseases, spread by contact with infected nasal or throat secretions (coughing or sneezing) or breathing the air that was breathed by someone with measles. The virus remains active and contagious in the air or on infected surfaces for up to two hours. For this reason, it is very infectious, and one person infected by measles can infect nine out of 10 of their unvaccinated close contacts. It can be transmitted by an infected person from four days prior to the onset of the rash to four days after the rash erupts.

Measles outbreaks can result in severe complications and deaths, especially among young, malnourished children. In countries close to measles elimination, cases imported from other countries remain an important source of infection

Complications of measles are relatively common, ranging from mild ones such as [diarrhea](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diarrhea) to serious ones such as [pneumonia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pneumonia) (either direct [viral pneumonia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Viral_pneumonia) or secondary [bacterial pneumonia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bacterial_pneumonia)), [laryngotracheobronchitis](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laryngotracheobronchitis) (croup) (either direct viral laryngotracheobronchitis or secondary bacterial bronchitis), [otitis media](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Otitis_media), acute [brain inflammation](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Encephalitis), [corneal ulceration](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corneal_ulcer) (leading to [corneal scarring](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corneal_abrasion)), and in about 1 in 600 unvaccinated infants under 15 months while more rarely in older children and adults, [subacute sclerosing panencephalitis](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Subacute_sclerosing_panencephalitis), which is progressive and eventually lethal.

In addition, measles can suppress the immune system for weeks to months, and this can contribute to bacterial superinfections such as otitis media and bacterial pneumonia. Two months after recovery there is an 11–73% decrease in the number of antibodies against other bacteria and viruses.

So yeah.. letting people just get measles would be a super idea /s

  29. I remember getting told we can’t have universal healthcare because then there would be death panels(there still are under private health insurance) so it’s pretty wild that RFK is advocating for American children to die.
