  1. Somewhat related, this reminds of “MA_Stasi.zip”.

In early 2000 a list of [Stasi](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stasi) employees and informants (name, age, location, income) was released. Backup [here](https://cryptome.org/stasi-list.htm).

I remember my parents calling me and telling me that it was just on the news in TV. Asked me if I could get that list. We then sat there and they searched for names of former friends of theirs. And sure enough they found one that was on it. There was an incident in the past that got Stasi involved which destroyed my parents entire circle of friends and they got blamed for it. All they did was that they (all of them) dared to talk about politics with friends. Not even public, behind closed doors at party. And they dared to criticize the GDR government for some things. During the next days they all had to show up at a local government office and had to explain themselves. Two of them even got expelled from university for it. Someone had reported them. One of their friends who was in that room. Either that or all the dorm rooms were bugged and an army of employees where sitting at the other end listing to all conversations. No, it had to be one of the group. But of course the culprit didn’t stand up for it. And everyone was pointing fingers at each other afterwards. Seriously fucked up system when you can’t even talk to your friends freely behind closed doors. At least the truth was revealed eventually, even tho decades later.

Lists like this are important. Share them.
