  2. I really don’t think they meant to. Zelensky just managed to play a shit hand like a pro and called their bluff.

  3. >**Maybe Trump Wants to Help Ukraine After All**

I just… Have you not seen everything trump has said and done over the last couple of weeks?!?! How in the world do so many people seem to have amnesia when it comes to trump??

  4. Well until he makes them accept whatever Russia comes up with or else.

  5. Trump probably saw Europe starting to realize it needed to intervene directly and is hoping France and the UK won’t take matters into their own hands if he feints continued US support. Europe taking the driver’s seat in defending Ukrainian sovereignty would be a disaster for Putin, so Trump might have been instructed to become a false friend.

  6. Trump is so out of touch he blundered into helping his despised Zelenskyy, who consistently delivers positive surprises

  7. Ukraine needs to just stick to its guns in certain things, absolutely no territory loss for a start. But the main thing is that the European Union needs to step up in an absolutely mammoth way, which they are certainly telegraphing at the moment. This will only be resolved to Ukraine’s advantage if Russia starts losing hard.

  8. The problem is with Trump it’s an advantage for 5 days, and then it’s back to how he feels when he wakes up.

  9. Ukraine had the first move advantage – imagine if this was the other way around, and Putin got to the table 1st, and was handing Ukraine a peace deal they negotiated with Trump – maybe how it worked out was all part of the plan

  10. What’s the clear advantage – the resumption of support they had used to sustain themselves against Russian invasion, that was arbitrarily removed due to one Presidents penis envy…

  11. Trump is playing both sides to see what deal is best for him. FWIW, Putin cannot be trusted at all. Neither can Trump. My guess, in exchange for intel, Russia will agree to a ceasefire for a month so Trump can prance around at what a good negotiator he is, all the while knowing that Russia will use his intel to decimate Ukraine in 30 days, giving Trump plausible deniability.

  12. …. But did they say thank you for the clear advantage to JD’s satisfaction?

  13. If Putin takes the deal, you can bet he did just to give the Russian military a chance to rest and resupply the frontlines. Peace will never come from this.

  14. So America, it’s time to vote for the next AMERICAN ALLY! Will it be Ukraine or Russia?

Call or text to 1-900- WAR BUDS.

Must be 18 or older to vote. Text and data rates apply.

  15. advantage? who tf wrote this article? the kremlin? This is a temporary ceasefire to negotiate Ukraine’s surrender

  16. And what will tomorrow’s position be? Sorry but not much faith in the words of this government.

  17. The Russians are talented post-truth spinners and very active in the western information space. Fucking up a ceasefire while convincing everyone (and Trump) that Ukraine is to blame will be relatively easy for them.

  18. > Putin may have to change his position—or risk being seen, by the rest of the world and even by Trump, as the bad guy.

Wow, ya, he wouldn’t dare. What a pickle he’d be in.

    World peace imminent.

  19. I bet I could guess exactly what happened….. Trump is an idiot and a narcissist. Putin knows that and played into his ego. Also a lot of the right wing influencers are paid for by Russia. Trump is full of misinformation that he probably still wholly believes. Naturally Tump (narcissist) likes putin and listens and talks to him like a normal person. This horrified everyone including Rupert Merdoch. Public opinion was bad enough on the whole ordeal that Rubio was able to convince trump to do something that actually makes sense.

  20. I don’t see anything in this article that points to Ukraine being handed a clear advantage.

  21. This headline doesn’t fit what the article says at all.

All that’s happened is the US is resuming support as the Russian’s look over this “peace plan”. The article suggests “this might give an advantage yadda yadda….” and “the potential for blah blah blah” and….etc etc

This is a fluff piece. Don’t believe a single promise from Trump ever. And certainly don’t believe anyone trying to convince you otherwise.

  22. If they did hand Ukraine an advantage, it would have happened by accident. Trump and his State Department are clearly just making things up as they go along.

  23. I wonder if Trump thinks he’s getting untouchable enough to refute Putin’s wishes

  24. Not really. Just watch how fast things spin the other way when Russia delivers their demands for a cease fire. Trump will immediately insist Ukraine comply, and then be the tough guy again talking about how Ukraine has no cards, and they’d better give in or things will get even worse.

  25. Is this right after handing russia a clear advantage and causing deaths of hundreds of Ukrainians?

  26. Trump’s state of mind is not reliable.

Considering the man just authorised chopping down the USA’s beautiful national forests, probably because of the tariffs on lumber Canada landed in retaliation for the uneccessery tariff war he’s started, he’s no less a scumbag and not to be trusted in any way.

We were recently saying how we might never trust the USA on weapons tech ever again. Hundreds of people just DIED.

Fuck Donald Trump, and fuck Elon Musk. Those men are as trustworthy as the lovechild of a weasel and a rattlesnake.

  27. If trump does manage to create peace and a cease fire that gets Ukraine back their territory, I will be very happy and amazed.

I think Russia wants out of this war as it is costing them too much.

  28. It took a while for Russia to get their message ops to dominate this sub but by god they eventually did it. Such a shame.

And if redditors with their hate boners for Trump could stop and think for a moment they may understand what is going on.

Trump wanted Ukraine compliant to U.S. demands. Like it, don’t like it, I get it, but he got it.

Then comes the cease fire proposal. The Ukrainian’s agreed. Russia is not likely to.

That leads to the next step, Trump gave Russia a chance, they seem like they are going to reject it. So Trump will up sanctions provide support to Ukraine as a consequence till Russia agrees. Which they likely never will. Trump will be justified in blaming Russia for not wanting peace and also justified in continuing support for Ukraine.

This is the strategy I see at play.

Trump also indicated about a month or so ago that lowering oil prices would force Russia to stop the war as they are on the verge of bankruptcy. Oil prices are going down. If they keep going down Russia will not be able to continue funding and probably will suffer economic disaster to boot.

  29. WTF. I’m starting to think Trump and Elon are just pumping and dumping the whole US economy. They couldn’t possibly see confusion any better

  30. I don’t think any of this is about Trump, Ukraine, Europe or anyone else, but Putin. Russia is losing the war and they are losing it badly. As they did in Afghanistan, Syria, and most other places. This time however it’s different. Putin went all in and committed the crime of hubris, the same crime Trump is committing, the Sin of Waging a War against his own people. They will both fall and fall hard. Trump’s fall, will be a from a heart attack on a golf course in Florida, Putin’s will be a bullet in the head by his generals and the joyous ringing of bells in both Russia and the US.

Putin’s and Trumps only hope of surviving a few more years and to have anyone at all care about them at all, is to save face now or all is lost. As we learned from the Greeks, Hubris is a terrible crime from which no mercy is shown. To defy the gods by believing in your addled brain you are better than the sum total of all of men has only one end result, death by your own hand or a pitchfork in the back. These are two men who have hurt millions. If the bullet had done more than nicked Trump’s ear, most people would now be saying, well it was probably for the best, I’m just glad he’s gone. The same for Putin. They both worship the same devil the almighty dollar. For both of them its about “The Art of the Deal” not about human life or the suffering they caused others.

This peace deal is not going to work. Trump has never brokered a deal he has kept and either has Putin. It is the same type of deal he offered Americans, lie to their face, and steal behind their backs.

Just to add. Come on Salon… this was a terrible article like you’d find in the Daily Beast.

  31. Maybe some defense contractor called up and said, dude – were making bank here – don’t fuck it up

  32. Trump is so goated, he crushed Zelensky and now he’ll crush Putin. America always wins

  33. This is wishful thinking BULLSHIT. Trump has done nothing but capitulate to Putin. This is all written on the pretense that *maybe* he won’t in the future.

  34. I think Marco Rubio may have been the one to manuever this. I think that while Marco is spineless when it comes to Trump, like most of the current Republican Party, he still doesn’t like the idea of Russia conquering it’s neighbors. He has spent his whole career being a hawk on foreign policy, and he knows that selling out Ukraine is wrong, that Russia is not a friend. He knows that rolling over for Russia will not be good for American policy and he will be the scapegoat if that is what happens. Donald Trump may be a weapons grade moron, but he really wants a big win. His vanity makes it easy to get him to agree to things if he thinks it makes him look good. And getting a cease fire would make him look good, especially since he can say “Joe Biden let this go on for three years and I come in and get a cease fire in 2 months…blah blah blah.” Donald Trump probably doesn’t care much about Ukrainians or Ukraine, or the fine print on any peace deal as long as he gets to talk about how much better he is than Joe Biden or Barack Obama.

  35. Garbage article.

The “advantage” is partially undoing his previous fucking of Ukraine aid and backing, and submitting a ceasefire *proposal* which Russia will reject unless it suits its goals in the region. Dogshit journalism probably written by AI

  36. Trump will forget he made the agreement tomorrow. Tomorrow, he will want to invade Australia because kangaroos aren’t American.

  37. Handed advantage in return for______ . Fill in the blank. Last week Zelenskyy said that the war will continue much longer. This week he is agreeing to ceasefire.

  38. Oh please. Let me throw sand in your eyes and call me a good guy when I hand you a towel.
