>A “secret hero’ who helped foil the Glasgow Airport terror attack in 2007 has died after a battle with a rare cancer, aged 59.
Fuck cancer. RIP.
Rest in peace, big man.
What a wonderful person. Rest in peace.
Not so much of a secret hero as he is a national treasure who was pretty well celebrated at the time. RIP to the guy who did the thing we all hope we’d do, and did it with a humble style and good sense of humour. <3
>Stephen Clarkson was picking up family from the airport when two suicide bombers drove a jeep packed with petrol and gas cannisters into the terminal building.
As one of the bombers fought off police officers and tried to open the car’s boot, the builder took him down with a “wee forearm smash”.
I worked in the bookies in Penilee for years and he was an absolute star of a man. Loved his dog (an alsatian) and had time for everyone. Never a braggard. A really friendly guy who spoke a lot of sense. He lost his wife and carried himself with incredible dignity and class.
Cancer is such a bastard of a disease. It respects nobody. Rich, poor, famous or otherwise.
I recall the incident so well, and feeling so proud of those who tackled the terrorists.
