EDGAR, Neb. (KSNB) – Residents were evacuated from an eight-block area of Edgar Thursday morning because of a natural gas leak.
Clay County Emergency Manager Haley Malone said the leak was reported around 10:10 a.m. after a construction company hit a gas line and also punctured a nearby sewer line.
Malone said Black Hills Energy shut off the gas leak, but local village, fire and rescue workers were trying to clear the sewer lines as of late Thursday morning.
Malone said children and workers from an Edgar day care were taken to the Edgar city building. She said other resident evacuated could go there too.
Malone said crews from South Central Public Power District cut electricity in the evacuated area in order to avoid sparking a fire or explosion.
Edgar Fire and EMS, Clay County Emergency Management and deputies from the Clay County Sheriff’s office were also on scene Thursday morning.
Malone said no injuries had been reported as of late Thursday morning.
