There is a labour shortage at the moment. We can’t recruit for a very lucrative fin tech position (PM me, if you have and of trade support, sql, post trade or middle office, crypto experience please!).
Why would people want to be a police officer? Scandals, physically demanding, hard background check (or should be 🙂 ), questionable colleagues, shrinking industry means promotion is hard to get, compulsory shift, weekend and holiday work, 2 years of working for free before you can get paid? What’s not to hate.

Probably simply down to the fact their are plenty of jobs that pay the same with less issues.
OMG .. I thought the headline was just that wonderful British humor and it is not.
Policing became a graduate only profession 2011. When they bought in the degree requirement, they simultaneously cut the salary and pension. They have never really struggled to recruit (until now), but the retention rates are dire.
It’s sad as I don’t think the job is terrible but if I’m gonna alienate my family the job needs to pay at least £40k starting 😂
Londoners are insufferable even online, nevermind actually having to deal with the cunts every day of your working life.
