Andrej Plenković, Prime Minister of Croatia, announced on his Facebook page that the works on the Zlobin-Bosiljevo gas pipeline have been finalised, and at the same time, construction has started on the Zabok-Lučko gas pipeline.
The entire project enables an increase in the capacity of the Plinacro gas transport system from 2.9 billion to the current technical capacity of the LNG terminal of approximately 3.4 billion cubic meters per year, significantly improving the security of gas supply in Croatia.
“The Government of the Republic of Croatia has made energy security and affordable gas prices its priority objectives,” the Minister wrote. “In this regard, they have secured 533 million euros from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan for the construction of four Plinacro gas pipelines, with a total length of 216 kilometres.”
“The investment in expanding the LNG terminal capacity on Krk Island is a strategic project that not only reduces Croatia’s energy dependence but also positions the country as a regional energy hub. These steps are crucial for further strengthening Croatia’s energy stability and reducing the risks associated with energy dependence,” he added.
“We are building a system that is reliable, modern and ready for future energy challenges, including decarbonization,” said Ante Šušnjar, Minister of Economy highlighting that all new gas pipelines have already been designed with the possibility of transporting hydrogen.
