  1. Would love to see this graph going back to 2010.

  2. A “conservative” will look at this graph and accuse moderates of really being liberals. That is to say, the real lesson to be learned here will not be learned.

  3. Ironic since, demographically, most conservatives can’t afford a Tesla. Impression doesn’t equal sales. Just perception that aligns with their ignorant worldview.

  4. Who else remembers when conservatives hated EVs with a passion?

  5. Maybe overall this is a good thing. Liberals are already more sold on the idea of an electric car. Conservatives will start buying more of them out of fealty to President Musk. Tesla goes bankrupt (hopefully) but by then the electric car (of any brand) is more popular on both sides of the political spectrum.

  6. Hilarious to see right-wingers in a short few years go from
“we need to ban electric vehicles! Block the chargers with your diesel trucks!”
    to
    “Elon is my other daddy.”

  7. Remember when Reddit loved Elon with a burning passion ten years ago? Pepperidge Farms remembers.

  8. I’ve hated Elon since at least 2017. Would love to see the graph then.

  9. What does the origin mean here? Nothing starts at zero so what are we looking at?

  10. and what exactly does “moderates” even mean anymore?

  11. I’m convinced that conservatives are the dumbest life forms on earth. They’re anti-climate change, religious, flatearthers, racist, homophobic, fanatics… Basically everything that’s wrong in current human society.

  12. Insane how Americas political spectrum ranges from conservative to liberal

  13. Why would liberals have a growing impression during the end of the campaign, elections, all the way up until the inauguration?

  14. Conservatives in this case really only see Elon switching sides as owning the libs. They’re not rushing out to buy Teslas or buy Starlink (unless they have a need for it).

Moderates and Liberals in this case tend to identify Elon for the contributions he’s made over time and tend to see this possibly drug fueled descent into opinion making as self indulgent, self-destructive actions of a rich and possibly broken dude. Almost all those guys (Musk, Gabe Newell, etc.,) are going to politically identify as more historically libertarian. It’s the switch to authoritarian/social conservatism that’s shocking.

  15. This is showing how bad it is for Tesla as the only group that seems to have a good impression is also the group LEAST likely to buy any BEV so great job Musk you are killing your brand as all your main buyers are quickly saying FU.

  16. Interesting, this graph looks just like the UMich inflation expectations just released…

  17. I overheard at a Tesla showroom yesterday:
Woman, to salesman: “I’m gonna be honest with you, I’ve always hated electric cars. Until the last week. And now I want to buy a Tesla”
Salesman: “well yeah, that’s why we’re here, to make America stronger”

I almost threw up on the cybertruck right then and there

  18. This would be more beautiful if the Conservative and Liberal lines were omitted from the dataset. As is, this is evidence more of political bias than it is anything useful

  19. Imagine being the richest person in the world, leading multiple lauded companies; then looking at the My Pillow guy and thinking, “I want that”

  20. I used to burn rubber in a big block Ford,

Roarin’ like thunder, man, never got bored.

But times are changin’, gotta roll with the flow,

Now my truck don’t growl, but it still sure goes. She’s silent but deadly, quick off the line,

Leaves that Hemi chokin’ every dang time.

No gas, no smoke, just a lightning streak,

This ol’ Tesla’s got that outlaw streak.

  21. Based on the ongoing and future stock plummet, more liberals buy Tesla and its stock. It would be interesting to see a weighted value of this impression by if one had purchased a vehicle or stock

  22. Says something that conservatives impression of Tesla improved after Enron Musk did a Nazi salute

  23. Funny, bc generally speaking conservatives and Trump’s cult can’t afford Tesla. Intelligent and liberals are saying fuck you to Tesla.

  24. It’s interesting that the reason other groups have experienced a decline in their impression of Tesla (Nazism) appears to be the same reason that has increased the Conservatives’ impression of Tesla.

  25. Sighhhh and so it begins again and we watchas the political landscape completely flips on its head gee boy i sure do luv living in these times

  26. This is funny because most liberals that loved Tesla’s have already bought one now conservatives that never thought about EV are going to buy Tesla’s.

    Brilliant marketing move imo

  27. You know what, silver lining. If this convinces anti-ev conservatives to buy a Tesla, even if all other buyers choose different manufacturers then we’ve successfully marched further along electrification of our vehicles by pulling the wool over the eyes of those that thought ev industry was a sham lol

  28. Conservatives now love Tesla, but still would never buy one.

Imagine the sales to conservatives if they built an ICE pickup that actually looked like a pickup. Might knock the F150 down a peg. Make it diesel powered dually with a coal roll button and it might be the only vehicle conservatives buy.

  29. Wait, last July Republicans used to hate Tesla, but after Elon does a couple of nazi salutes, that actually boosted the brand image in their minds?

  30. Meanwhile the rolling coal crowd is like – OH MAN I LOVE ME EVS NOW.

    HAHAHAbWHAHAHABWHAHAHA

Its like I win without even trying.

  31. I suspect conservatives would be starting from quite a low position. Elon Musk’s pivot to open Nazism might be the best piece of marketing ever as far as getting conservatives interested in electric cars is concerned.
