Lesotho says ‘shocked and embarrassed’ by Trump comments • FRANCE 24 English

Lesotho was taken aback by US President Donald Trump’s mockery of the southern African nation, its foreign minister said Wednesday, as the country’s main LGBTQ rights organisation denied receiving funds from Washington. Trump called Lesotho a country “nobody has ever heard of” as he defended his sweeping cuts in aid during an address to Congress Tuesday.

  1. I’ve NEVER been more ashamed to be an American! Countries that trump laughs about have more rights and freedoms and respect than the UNITED STATES right now!

  2. Trump may not be right but for African countries to get repsect we must work very hard to earn it not to wait for it to be given to us

  3. Let's just wait and see what happens after an audit investigation. Trump might have no Idea where Lesotho is but as a fellow former South African I can assure you Elon Musk knows the mountain kingdom all too well. And if 8 million has vanished or never appeared in Thaba Bosiu (Maseru) … it's means there is "graft" (corruption) going on or money got allocated but not funnelled across the Atlantic correctly. Having grown up in Southern Africa and witnesses both as a child and later as a journalist NGO's financial miss-management first hand. Pocketing and squandering well ment donor cash so rich overseas elite policy makers children can stay in fancy houses, drive nice cars and have an African adventure and complete a meaningless PhD.

I think I know what's happened. Lets us go check who lives where, drives what andwhere they send their kids to school … and which elite donors kids came for an extended Africa safari recently.

Sorry if that makes you angry but that's what I saw both sides of the coincorrupting each other. It left my brother and I disgusted (watching an industry one of our parents worked in) and I swore I would never get involved in the same field or donate a penny to any multinational charity ever. To this day I have kept my promise.

I give to those with problems I encounter on the ground at source and never to the corrupt middle men. But lets see an audit because … I think there are many dirty hands both side of the Atlantic and it always takes two to tango. Maybe the savings can buy a new broom to sweep the whole corrupt industry clean.

  4. Trump and his allies embarrass not only themselves but every American with their stupidity, disrespect for others, arrogance and utter vacuity.
Impeach Trump/Vance and save our country!

  5. Lesotho must consider this an honour and people must learn to appreciate the manner in which Trump normally drives the point home using Humour; Exaggeration and Repetition!

  6. Even many Africans have no idea where Lesotho is. There's little heard from the country, no major news, no presence at the AU, not even music making waves. That’s a wake-up call to my Lesotho fam, make some big moves, at least trend on jeez! and to FRANCE 24 is that the best picture you can give us of Lesotho? you are part of the problem.

  7. How is that an insult to Lesotho? He is a president that doesn't known where a country is and they applaud that? lol. I get why people don't like him he isn't very smart.

  8. Of course he knows where Lesotho is. He meant that he cannot understand why so much money was sent to this small country for LGB support.

The insult wasn’t at the country. It was at the significance of Lesotho in the whole LGB movement.

People are so quick to take offense and seldom wonder what else it could mean.

  9. There are 54 countries in Africa. Lesotho has a little more than 2 million people. In almost 60 years, I have yet to meet one person from Lesotho. Lesotho hasn't contributed to anyone I know. Sounds like a lovely country but let's face it. Trump is right on this one.

  10. More Trump Derangement Syndrome, guised as news, from mainstream media, this time by France 24. The comments that follow are so typical.

  11. Omg no need to make it a huge matter dont know why u guys are mad about it it’s time USA spend their own money in their country other than supporting another country shees

  12. nigerian dude saying he doenst know about money. yeah, somehow im pretty sure thats whata he would say if he knew about it. cmon man…do some proper journalism….

  13. Is the US not helping to provide access to the same treatments here? Because the world knows how to keep the AIDS rate lower than that. I don't think Lesotho is being sent the same therapies because they're too expensive.
