the visas/permissions to move to Ireland should require a police clearance certificate from the countries the person has lived in.
I am lost why do not do that.
Did I read correctly that part of his defence was that it was opportunistic and not premeditated?! I actually don’t know what’s worse.
“The judge said: “I cannot ignore the defendant’s appalling previous convictions.” He noted that Gladstone has no mitigating factors except that he is a foreign national serving time in an Irish prison.”
Why is this a mitigating factor? 🤔
Being a woman in modern Ireland is not a good place to be.
So the brits let him leave to go to Ireland and now when he tried to go back they won’t take him? They know McEntee is a laughing stock.
No, there are no unvetted people coming into the country. Helen McEntee.
more and more and more of the same.
Where are the statistics for sexual assaults in the last 5 years committed by non nationals as a comparison to Irish citizens?
What is the percentage of serious crimes committed by the foreign born vs Irish born people, why isn’t this available as an overall picture of real fact based optics?
As it seems like every day its another non national who is being charged.
‘’He then left the accommodation and, at 7.30am the following morning, bought a ferry ticket to the UK. However, he was unable to board the ferry as he was barred from entering the UK’’
Questions have to be asked why he was allowed into Ireland when he was barred from the UK
A lot of people in this thread do not seem to be aware of the common travel area
Got 10 years for a gang rape and robbery in the UK in 2001.
Another life ruined because of our government’s utter incompetence.
That poor girl.
Unfortunately not the first bad person allowed into the country unchecked to the detriment of the tax paying citizens
I’ve seen cases before where judges order people to leave the country as soon as their sentence ends.
In this situation he should have a deportation order on them so he will be taken to the airport straight from prison and permanently barred from reentry.
Will this mutant be deported after he finishes his prison term.
He should be thrown into a slurry pit
“He has 19 previous convictions from the UK, including for for rape, kidnapping, robbery and false imprisonment.
Judge McGrath agreed with the Director of Public Prosecutions that this offending falls in the 10 to 15 year sentencing category”
Anyone care to give a ELI5 here, previous for the exact same, it is very clear now he will be an ever present danger to society when he gets free…
We really need to be a lot more harsh with our immigration policy.
Honestly, this man being in the country is a failing of the government – we need to change the rules.
Careful the reddit mods will start blocking and banning people because the reality that leaving any old Tom Dick and Harry in does result in bad things happening to innocent people
Thank fuck he didn’t get assigned to Nolan.
For me, there is a line beyond which life(meaning life) without parole should be the only possible sentence. All murderers, rapists and child molesters should be jailed permanently for the protection of the rest of society. The consequences of them reoffending are too grevious, and the likelyhood of them doing so to great, to be worth risking because of some warped sense of compassion. Society needs to accept, what used be apparent to almost everyone, that it is possible for people to be so broken as to be irreparable
Lord above, will he be deported after his sentence? Cunt should be shot with balls of his own shite, but I would settle for him to be shipped home
I love the enrichment we’re getting.
Question – given that we have essentially an open land border with the UK, do we have access to the UK’s criminal databases? At least the ones related to convictions? Anyone know this?
I’m guessing no, since that would require a modicum of initiative in regard to duty of care and security by our government.

Stick him on a barge and push it out to sea.
So 7.5 years in reality. Nowhere near enough.
After prison I assume he’s sent back to the UK?
