The Wessex Chamber Choir, based in Hook, was recently at St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle, to sing in place of the regular choir, who were on break for half term.

The choir, under the direction of Oliver Tarney, was well rehearsed and prepared for the service.

However, just before the service began, the unexpected news arrived that the King would be in attendance.

The King, walking through the chapel, took time to speak with some choir members.

At the end of the service, the National Anthem was sung, and some members of the congregation were bemused to see the King, who had slipped in unnoticed at the beginning.

The King, having heard two of his favourite pieces by composer Sir Charles Villiers Stanford, congratulated the choir on their performance.

Wessex Chamber Choir has been invited back to sing for another weekend.

The choir rehearses on Thursdays at St John’s Church, Hook, from 8pm to 9.30pm.
