I would be up for it because I find the marketing absolutely irritating.
But I think there is more aspects to gambling this doesnt seem to be touching such as lootboxes and gambling in games
I think we’re going to look back in years to come at gambling, the way we look at smoking today.
Gambling advertising should be treated like cigarette advertising, effectively outlawed (I’d include alcohol there too).
I’m not stupid enough to think banning gambling advertising is going to stop gambling but I suspect it has a role to play in fuelling gambling problems.
Yeah because gambling addicts would never place a bet again if they didn’t see that pesky Paddy Power jingle on the fernseher.
How about you address the socioeconomic factors that drive people to gambling addictions in the first place?
Once again, politicians enacting a simple policy to make it look like they’re solving the problem when they’re actually doing nothing.
Will this be an end to water slide adverts?
Also ban them sending you offers by text or email
I’m signed up with a few bookies and I get regular enough texts from them offering odds or special offers, even after opting out with some. They’re just an annoyance for me but I’d say some people must be regularly tempted by them

Also remove their right to self regulate
Exactly! Imagine someone trying to quit gambling only to be bombarded by adds online, take YouTube for an example. I’ve seen lots there, yet I dont really gamble myself.
Bookies employ hundreds both in shop and on customer service ends and much more. Wont happen…… and shouldnt happen in my opinion. No more harmful than alcohol adverts in this country.
But of course theres so many craft beer wankers on here we dont like admitting that….
Also Paddywagon, please
Would this include the Lotto?
I am absolutely behind this. I don’t have a problem with gambling but the amount of advertising since covid is 100% out of control
Bet it never happens
Anyone got the lotto app? F me but that thing is persistent in trying to get you to ~~gamble~~ do the lotto/play their games.
I ended up going into the android system settings to disable the notifications as there’s no way to do it in the lotto app.
If I was a parent I’d be afraid to even let my son watch sport as every ad is for gambling, it’s on the players kit, on the boards around the pitch.
Anyone remember the ads for ‘the Ladbrokes life’ with the young fellas they gave different nicknames to, like ‘the professor’? They have a goal to hook young men as soon as they turn 18, turn it into a ‘lads activity’ like getting a cheeky nandos after a night out. They don’t show the real life of a gambler, like going to the bank for a mortgage and being refused because you deposited into a betting account
And we’ve all seen those auld lads down the bookies who lived that life.
I’d agree with this. Get rid of them.
I fucking wish they would ban those gambling ads. There’s fucking tons of them, every ad break on Sky Sports or BT there’s at least 2 of them, maybe more as the night goes on.
I think someone should be allowed to smoke till their lungs are raisins, I think someone should be allowed to drink till they can turn their water into wine, I think someone should be able to gamble their teeth.
However, None of them should be allowed to advertise.
Yeah a ban on all forms of gambling advertising would be a good move.
It’s not going to stop people gambling but maybe it will see a reduction in it when it’s not on every tv station/newspaper every day of the week.
I mean yeah in fairness I think gambling and I think even alcohol is banned from advertisement in Norway so it’s not a brand new idea, definitely think it’s a good idea. Norway has a ban on casinos as well though, idk if I’d go that far (not that I go to casinos but are they really that bad?) someone may have to fill me in about casinos tbh.
Side note there are no childrens toy advertisements in Norway either. I’m sure all the parents in here would appreciate something like that in Ireland lol. Imagine not having every time an ad comes on the telly for a toy and having your kids ask and ask for it until they get it.
the oul adverts be giving them notions!
Been utterly bombarded with them over the last month, presumably because of Cheltenham. It’s wasted money on me however as I despise horse racing and gambling as a whole.
Fucking please. The amount of annoying fucking online casino adds you get on youtube.
They should but it brings in loads of money
You can’t ban things just because a minority of people abuse it and can’t control themselves

I bet you it won’t happen.
Why not tax gambling with capital gains tax like they do stocks ?
Legislation for a Gambling Regulator is well advanced, they are already hiring for a CEO of the Regulator in advance of that.
I don’t see what value piecemeal legislation would add.
