  1. Mark Rutte two months ago:

    > *[Adolf Putler is trying to crush our freedom and way of life and if we don’t stop him in Ukraine, he’ll invade Europe](https://www.theguardian.com/world/2024/dec/13/europe-must-adopt-wartime-mindset-to-stop-putin-says-nato-chief)* 😡!

    Mark Rutte today:
    > *[Russia is there and Russia will not go away. If the war ends, it would be normal to restore relations with Russia](https://www.politico.eu/article/nato-secretary-general-mark-rutte-russia-relations-war-in-ukraine-donald-trump)* 😇!

Put a fork in it, NATO is done, folks 💁‍♂️

  2. This was always the plan

Ukrainians and Western European are finally realizing that they have been nothing more than a proxy to weaken Russia. Thats it.

Now their country is destroyed, their demographics in a huge crisis, a significant amount of their woman who fled falling victim to human trafficking with some being forced to sell their bodies (estimates are there that half of brothek girls in Berlin are Ukrainian woman) and almost half of the ukranians who left not wanting to come back even after war.

Even if Ukraine “wins” the war (which probably won’t happen if the current trajectory doesn’t change drastically) they are done for the next three decades

  3. Makes total sense.

This war will end and I think the day it does all of the people calling this an existential threat and the end of American European relations etc will suddenly be silent on it. All the people that claim Ukraine and zelensky to be the second coming will move on. And all that will be left are the companies extracting resources from Ukraine and the western companies scrambling to reenter the Russian Market and buy their energy.

    The virtue signalling will end

Cynical for sure but…its what’s happening imo

  4. To any one opposing this: what was the other endgame?

Russia knows their long term economy is significantly weakened by not trading with the rest of the world, so as part of any ceasefire or peace deal they’ll probably want that back.

Hell, right now the EU pays billions of dollars a year to Russia for fossil fuels, and they have no roadmap to reduce it. They’re going to keep funding Russia indefinitely and that will just fuel Russia’s war machine. The EU and Russia still have significant trade relations despite the sanctions.

The whole incentive of implementing the sanctions is so that Russia feels the pain and decides to stop the war, if we don’t lift sanctions then there’s less reason for them to comply.

This isn’t a Marvel movie where Adolf Putin gets served justice, we teach Russia a “lesson,” and we have a dance party at the end. This was always the most obvious route that the war would take unless you actually think WW3 is an option.

  5. I knew there had to be a bad reason Trump was so supportive of Rutte over his counterparts running for the position.

MH17 Mark. You spineless career politician.

I thought maybe he was buttering up Trump as long as he needed to. The only acceptable reason he could be saying this is as a lie to fool the Russians.
