To change the healthcare system, priorities must change, former Prime Minister of Moldova, Chiril Gaburici, said during a panel discussion titled “Global Health Crisis: New Frontiers in Preparedness and Equity” at the XII Global Baku Forum, APA reports.
Chiril Gaburici emphasized that in some cases, the wrong priorities have been chosen in the fight against global health problems. He noted that this increases fragmentation and competition.
“We experienced the COVID pandemic. If a similar situation arises, and new pandemics emerge, we must be prepared to take different actions. Investments in healthcare remain unchanged, while investments in the military industry and wars have increased many times over. Furthermore, the distribution of funds is unequal. Some countries have weak healthcare systems, and people do not have access to medical services. To change the healthcare system, priorities must change. It is important to develop proper protocols in healthcare. Only in this case is it possible to help the world’s population in emergency situations,” he noted.
