  1. – The aim of the summit is for Europe to persuade the US to “guarantee Ukraine’s security in the future”

So it’s a meeting about having a future meeting with a group that wasn’t invited to the first meeting and seeing if they will change their position to be in line with an undefined goal.

Europe at its finest ladies and gentlemen.

  2. I honestly don’t get this at all, so they must know something we don’t.

Russia has said them being there is a red line and for peacekeepers you need everyone to agree.

  3. and by Operational planning, he means planning to get the USA to agree to be a guarantor or participant, because without that, it isn’t happening.

Not to mention, the agreement of the Russians is also necessary, because outside of a UNSC resolution over which the Russians have veto, they will consider British troops in Ukraine hostile and party to the conflict, and fire upon them. Starmer isn’t stupid enough to think that would pan out as to anything good for him.

  4. Operational phase – to me that means military stuff starts happening, but what? Staging troops, equipment and aircraft east?

  5. Europe is 30+ states, are they allowed to come up with a single strategy before meeting with that third party? There is no organism that is delegated for that, and any effort will be rejected because individual countries do not want to lose power. This is not texas and california, or the central government of China

  6. Seems like, if the US doesn’t agree to be a guarantor for European peacekeeping forces. We will quietly abandon Ukraine to Russia. And then once Ukraine has been fully taken over and their brave and ingenious soldiers turned to fight against Europe in a new Russian invasion. We will have an even bigger and more expensive war on our hands

  7. It’s heartening to see that countries across the globe are standing together for peace. Donald Trump only wants peace at his price, that is evident the way he and scumbag vance treated zelensky, and the fact that he is talking invasion of Panama and Greenland. Trump is a dangerous unpredictable child and the rest of the world should do whatever they can legally do to bring him down.

  8. I see it less as European indecisiveness and more as a calculated move to put the U.S. in a corner. It’s like Europe’s saying, ‘We’ve laid the groundwork, America ball’s in your court. If you’re the peacemaker you claim to be, step up and do what’s right. If it flops, it paints the U.S. government as the hostile one. Feels like a subtle realpolitik play, smartly executed, to shift the pressure rather than just dithering.

  9. I think it’s a step in the direction that we’ve proposed a ceasefire while maintaining pressure on Putin till he acquiesces.
