Cuban electrical grid is essentially a Soviet creation. Most of the oil-burning thermal plants (created to burn cheap Soviet oil at first!) are getting long in the tooth- IIRC, the newest one is from 1988. The transmission gear is of a similar vintage.
They break if they’re not maintained, none of the spare parts are made in Cuba, and Cuba doesn’t have money to pay for spare parts from abroad. The Chinese are not big on charity the way the USSR was. Total and unrecoverable collapse is just a matter of time.
