Pardon my ignorance: considering that the drones fight in a range of a few km from their own lines, can't they use the normal terrestrial internet connection that we normally use with our smartphones when we don't have Wi-Fi? That supposes having some transmitting antennae in the vicinity of the front, and some gateway link to those antennae, which could either be terrestrial, or maybe a satellite link. Wouldn't that satisfy most of the communication needs of an army? Can't antennae be placed in high-rise buildings, high trees, hills etc?

    Also, encrypted radio communications still exist.

    Regarding drones, I figure that the "gonzo visual" 😉 requires bandwidth and low latency, but can it be positively said that Eutelsat would not be sufficient?

    Besides, tethered drones would continue to work, they are not very good in all situations, but they do work.

    I think that there always are alternatives. Starlink can be very useful, but its hypothetical lack would not necessarily paralyse Ukrainian activity on the front.
